Traditionally passed down through generations of women, weaving has long been a form of artistic expression with very practical application.   Raffia is a straw-like material found inside of a species of palm that grows abundantly across sub-Saharan Africa. The fiber is stripped from the palm leaf, dried in the sun, dyed (if desired), and woven. Because Raffia is soft, durable, and flexible it can be used in a variety of techniques from coil weaving to crochet.

• Our woven pieces are sturdy and made to last. They’re also meant to be used, and because life happens, sometimes they get a little out of shape. You can reshape your basket or bag by spraying creased areas with water and pressing into your desired shape. The material should feel damp but not saturated. Add water slowly to get a feel for what your piece needs and avoid color bleeding. Let dry, avoiding direct sunlight, or placing on fabrics. Repeat as necessary. Stray fibers are normal, trim any that appear over time Spot Clean
