I purchased these hiking boots for a trip to Moab Utah. They were wonderful. They gripped the rocks well. The shoe has a wide toe box which makes it comfortable to wear if you have a wide foot. They are heavier than sneakers to wear but was not difficult to get use to.

Painful shoe because of defect

The tongue on the left shoe was made wrong with too much fabric. It gathers and creates a bump that digs painfully into your foot when your shoe is tied. The difference between the correctly made right shoe and the wrong left shoe is very obvious. Very disappointed Keen would sell a defective item. I own a previous version of the Targhee and they were absolutely perfect. I wore them constantly for 5 years. This version is also too big and wide. Very disappointed.

Favorite hiking shoe

I love hiking in my Keen Targhees. These are mt favorite shoes and feel reliable. Great traction, have done many hikes with both no elevation gain and with thousands of meters of elevation gain. Because I live in SoCal, I don’t have many instances of experiencing the waterproof level, but when I went to Ojai and crossed minor streams and creeks I didn’t have to worry if some water got onto the shoe.

Great comfort

I wore these shoes for the first time when I walked on a nature trail for a couple of miles. I found them to be very comfortable, and I was able to wear them all day.

Too big, no support

I love past models of Targhee, but this model 4 is too big/wide with very little support. One day at work landscaping, and my arches hurt the whole time. I ordered a half size smaller than normal because of other reviews, and my foot was floating around, and it's not a matter of cinching up the laces tighter. It's just designed bigger. They actually look too wide from a top down view. So bummed!
