comfort right out of the box
I am a Keen loyalist and have been hiking in Keens for many years. They feel great right out of the box and typically wear very well. I'm a big fan of the wide toe box with Keens, and this new pair doesn't disappoint. Even though they run large, I always buy a half size bigger than my normal tennis shoe size.

Painful shoe because of defect
The tongue on the left shoe was made wrong with too much fabric. It gathers and creates a bump that digs painfully into your foot when your shoe is tied. The difference between the correctly made right shoe and the wrong left shoe is very obvious. Very disappointed Keen would sell a defective item.
I own a previous version of the Targhee and they were absolutely perfect. I wore them constantly for 5 years. This version is also too big and wide. Very disappointed.

Not the same
I’ve had dozens of Targhee boots, mainly the mids but have had several pairs of the lows. When I went from the IIIs to the IVs there was a noticeable difference. Much heavier and the sole seemed different and they really bothered my knees. I reached out to Keen and they verified that they have a new manufacturer which I took to mean less expensive to make. I now look for IIIs on clearance.

No break in period needed.
I bought these and took them on vacation to Everglades National Park a few days later. I wore these all day on multiple trails and other terrain. They never hurt my feet.

Keen Targhee IV Hiking Shoes - Waterproof!
I bought these shoes a couple of weeks ago in anticipation of being outside for an extended period of time, in uncertain weather conditions. I found the shoes to have a wide toe box (beneficial for bunions), with ample room for thick socks. While outside, my feet were comfortable, warm and dry.
