Kateceuticals® Firming Serum

I absolutely love the Kate Somerville line and use so many different products. This one was not my favorite. If you’re looking for something very light however, you may like this.

I received this as a deluxe sample and was excited to try it as I love a good serum. It feels nice but it’s not for me. I have to use too much to cover my face and for the price and the amount I had to use it disappeared quickly. So quickly I didn’t have enough to trial it long enough to see any results. It smelled nice and felt nice on my skin, but the results were not enough to make a full size purchase worth it.

I tried a sample some years ago and then purchased the full size of this serum whilst on offer with Space NK and I have not been disappointed. It feels very luxurious as the pump works like a charm, the product feels rich in texture and glides on beautifully on my skin making it feel plump and well hydrated. The fragrance is also one I like but sadly it is only 30ml so I will need to repurchase another in the not too distant future but I will be buying it again as it really suits my mature skin.

I used this serum consistently, day and night, for 2–3 months, slotting it in place of my usual serum—and while it hasn’t rewritten the skincare rulebook, it left a surprisingly strong impression. First, the texture is gorgeous—slightly heavier than most serums, more cream than gel, but it melts beautifully into the skin. It feels instantly nourishing without ever being heavy, sticky, or greasy. The scent is also a delight: fresh, clean, and uplifting, without being overpowering. It layers like a dream, plays well with makeup, and I experienced zero pilling or irritation (and I have sensitive skin). As for the performance? I didn’t see a dramatic change in firmness, plumpness, or elasticity, nor did fine lines or wrinkles budge. Radiance wasn’t noticeably boosted either… until I stopped using it. About two weeks after finishing the bottle, I realised my skin didn’t feel quite as glowy or cared-for. There’s a certain "can’t-put-my-finger-on-it" softness and comfort that I now miss, even if the clinical claims didn’t quite materialise. Because it was a gift, I didn’t feel the sting of the price—but to repurchase at full cost? I’d hesitate. It’s a lovely-feeling serum and a pleasure to use, but I’ve had similar results from more affordable options. I’d happily use it again if it came as part of a wider kit or on offer, but it’s not a “must-have” at RRP.

I have a few products from this brand, and was lucky enough to get this for my birthday. I absolutely love the citrus scent, and the serum itself is really good: great consistency, creamy and rich but sinks in beautifully ready for moisturiser. I use it as part of my daily morning routine. I wouldn’t say it’s firming but it may be for someone with younger skin than mine!!

This is my second product from Kate Somerville that I have tried, I am using it at night under the peptide cream that was suggested. It feels very silky and lightweight on the skin and the moisturiser goes on beautifully on top. My skin feels well hydrated and comfortable and I am looking forward to seeing how my skin is in a few weeks. Beautiful packaging and great ingredients.
