Good waterproofing; sizing & features fall short
I have been looking for a waterproof backpack that would be good for day hiking. Going to Costa Rica and Nepal soon and was looking for a simple, waterproof day pack with no frills. Some of the other brands (Osprey, especially) are loaded with clips, straps, and buckles to an excess, so I appreciate Fjallraven's simple, clean, and functional designs. Unfortunately, this bag was was a little TOO simple. I hiked 5 miles on flat trail recently and carried only the essentials for a short day hike: 2 liters of water, rain jacket & pants, a few small accessories. The bag was a very uncomfortable carry with many useless features and not enough useful ones. Here was my experience:
1. The sizing of the bag is strange. It has tiny straps and seems made for someone with a very short torso. With the straps cinched up correctly so that the chest strap could be utilized, the waist strap ended up under my ribs. This made the bag feel heavy on my shoulders, since the waist strap was essentially useless. Longer straps would solve this and would allow the bag to fit a wider variety of people. For reference, I am female, average build, 5'6, 145 lbs.
2. Awkward carry: bag has no support or form, so everything sinks down to the bottom like a sack. The tall roll-top makes it feel like an endless cavern. Good like finding those extra socks you put in there. A drawstring closure with storm flap would be more functional than a roll-top, which adds extra fabric for no reason.
3. The bungee cord is 100% useless. It is flimsy and moved a lot with the bag, since the bag is basically a big floppy pouch. I had been hoping to put my rain jacket int he bungee, but I was concerned that the jacket would fall out, so the rain jacket went inside the bag instead. Useless. A mesh or zippered pocket would have been much more useful here.
On the plus side: some people complain about the small water bottle holders. I did not find them to be too small. These fit a small nalgene bottle just fine. They are not very secure though - no elastic or anything, and sometimes things fall out of them - so don't put anything valuable in there. The tiny zippered side pouch on exterior works well for sunglasses. The interior of the bag has more organization than many dry bags have. Overall, this bag is great for the beach, a boat trip, or maybe a cruise ship excursion, but it is uncomfortable to carry, has poorly thought out features, and is not ideal for real day hikes.

The Only Bag You’ll Ever Need- Seriously!
I bought this bag 3 years ago and loved it so much I picked up a second one as a backup 6months after. Since then, I’ve been alternating between the two on my daily 5km walk to work – rain, snow, or blazing sun – and both bags are still going strong. I’ve even strapped one to the front of my ATV for 100km riding days, and it’s handled the elements without a scratch.
At 50, I’ve tried countless bags over the years, but nothing else compares. These bags are truly waterproof, durable, and built to last. I’ve been tempted to buy a third just in case, but honestly, the two I have still look and perform like new. No need to replace what isn’t broken!
Highly recommend – it’s the last bag you’ll ever need.

Well Made, but Disappointing Durability
I’ve had this backpack for 3 years. It’s well made, lightweight, and uses quality materials. But the waterproof inner membrane started to peel after about 2 years—right after the warranty expired. That’s disappointing, especially since Fjällräven promotes durability and sustainability. You pay more expecting a product that lasts longer; in this case, it didn’t deliver.

Passed the test, gold star backpack!
I took mine to the rainforests of Costa Rica and, despite getting soaked through for a month by the rain, my stuff always remained perfectly dry. This is the perfect travel daypack for me. It rolls up to be small enough to strap to my main pack, has a ton of carrying capacity, is super well designed to retrieve items quickly, and has held up great. If I get a small hole, a simple gear patch from the inside bonds immediately and makes it good as new. I love it!! The only thing I'd change is that the straps on the front are thin and useless. They're much more for looks than anything. I would rather them be replaced with a large front pocket, the same design of the greenland top 30's large front pocket.

Undeniable Waterproof Protection
This has become my favorite day-pack when paddleboarding and has absolutely been put to the test. Strapped to the board deck taking on wave after wave, everything inside was perfectly dry despite the outer shell felt absolutely soaked. Pack is MUCH lighter and breathable on the skin than the more rubbery alternatives. I love the side pockets and the elastic webbing for outside storage.

Great day pack, great value
I have only had the high coast roll top for a short period of time but it has been on 10+ hikes with me already! This pack is light, has comfortable straps, and has enough storage to fit more than everything I need for a long day hike. I have yet to be caught in the rain with it, but it is the same material as my high coast hip pack which I know keeps all of my things dry.
