Best trench I've found this season.
4.5 stars if I could.
I recently lost a significant amount of weight and have had to replace all of my wardrobe staples. I've really been struggling to find a trench coat that I love. I was prepared to make an investment in a much more expensive brand, but then this popped up on my Nordstrom home page. I've never purchased anything from Sam Edelman so I had no idea what to expect, but overall I'd say my expectations were low given the price point (and additional sale on top of it). However, out of the dozen or so trench coats I've tried recently, this one is my favorite so far!
The biggest issue I've had with the others is that they are made of flimsy, unstructured material. Trench coats, in my opinion, should be structured. And, this one is. I like that it has symmetrical flaps at the chest (the single flap look drives me nuts) and the collar and belt are lined with heavy wide wale corduroy which, again, gives structure. I don't love the corduroy being visible when the belt is tied so I'l be careful about how I tie it.
I'm 5'7", 145lbs, athletic build, size 4-6 and the small fits me perfectly. The sleeves could stand to be a tiny bit longer but they hit me where they do on the model (I just prefer another inch or so, personally). But, this is a problem I have with pretty much any coat, so I'll live with it.
I'm not 100% on keeping it yet - I have two more coming that I need to compare to it, but right now it's definitely the frontrunner.
