Broken Upon Delivery
The item took about 2 weeks to deliver, and unfortunately the lid was broken in pieces, as the item was packed in a box about 4x it's size with a little bit of bubble wrap. This item is packed and distributed directly from Le Creuset, so Nordstrom couldn't do much about it outside of refund it and file a complaint. Just beware when you place the order that it's not packaged well and you may spend more time dealing with reporting the damage to get a refund.

Delivered broken. Although the box it came in was protected, the actual crock lid and crock have a very thin piece of cardboard separating the two pieces, so the lid arrived cracked. They should have added more padding inside the item box.

The answer to spreadable butter…
Like other reviewers, having used this butter crock, I will never go back to a regular butter dish for storing butter at room temperature. It keeps the butter soft but not too soft. Perfect! Like another reviewer, my first effort resulted in the butter falling into the water, but then I read the instructions on a different brand butter bell, voila! Problem solved. I have only been putting in one stick, not the extra half, and have had no problems. The top fits well and overall the crock is very nice looking. Top is easy to grab onto, and it sits flat on the counter when you want to use it as a dish. It is easy to clean. My only suggestion would be to provide more instructions on how to pack the butter so that it doesn’t fall out into the water. I have the sea salt color and would love a blue one when they are back in stock. Like other reviewers, I will buy them for gifts.
