Acorn Waxed Jacket

5'7 145 pounds. Ordered a size 6 (typically a 4) because it said that sizes 4-6 run small, which is totally true. Size 6 fit like a dream. It is quite a heavy jacket, looks great and seems well made. The downside, which outweighs the pros for me, is the maintenance. When I received the jacket, the exterior of the jacket seemed a bit tacky to the touch and had a slight smell of wax. I also learned that you there is no way to clean the lining inside the jacket unless you spot treat it with a small towel and cold water. You're also supposed to get it re-waxed every year. For a jacket that claims to last at least a decade, the fact that you cannot even dry clean is a bit too much for me. I don't think I can spot treat it every time I sweat in it or get a stain... sounds very ineffective for an expensive jacket. Looks great, but is going back!

This was my first Barbour jacket that I had purchased and I am very happy with it! The first week I had it it rained and it was fantastic in the rainy weather! Kept me very dry and I bought the hood and liner to go with it. I am thrilled about how it looks! I am usually a size 6 in most brands, but with the research I did on how they fit I felt the 8 would be better for layering. The should fit very nicely and does not look too big. I am 5'3 and about 145 lb, curvy body type.

I am usually a size 10 (5'-7" and 145 lbs.) and ordered both a 10 and 12. The 10 was a good fit for me when worn with a cotton sweater. If you like jackets oversized or wear heavy wool sweaters, go up one size. If you like it fitted you could go down a size. This is my second Barbour jacket and I love both for transitional weather in Minnesota. It's stylish, beautiful quality, and good for walking in damp weather.

The jacket is adorable, super-warm and extremely well made. However the waxed cotton looks nearly impossible to maintain. You can't put it in a washing machine, and you can't send it to the dry cleaner. All you can do is spot clean, and you have to re-wax the jacket on a regular basis. That is a big production! Also, once rewaxed, I saw warnings that it could stain other clothing in your closet and even the leather seats in your car. I wish there were a non-waxed version of this jacket, I would wear it all the time. Unfortunately, this one is going back. I am usually a size 6 so I ordered the 8 but it was too big. The 6 was true to size.
