Bamburgh Hooded Waterproof Jacket

I purchased this jacket a month ago. I specifically was looking for a knee length, waterproof jacket, with mid-range insulation. I live in the pacific northwest where it rains consistently. Yesterday I wore this jacket outside for 30 minutes while raining - not torrential rain, moderate rain. The water went through the outer layer, into the lining. I honestly have no idea why this is being advertised as waterproof. I do not fault Nordstrom. Barbour also says it’s waterproof. I returned the jacket the same day, still damp. This is a moderately warm jacket, that functions as well something purchased at Target, but with a nearly $600 price tag, after tax.

Had I been looking for a fall/winter waterproof raincoat, this would have been nearly perfect. But unless I missed it in the description, this coat has either some sort of light insulation or other filling that makes it more than just a shell/lining (which is the type of all season waterproof coat I am looking for- also ordered the Lavender and that's probably going to be the winner). I really like the styling and fit, but it's just too heavy. Also, the cute plaid lining, while in the hood, doesn't extend past the yoke area inside (minor detail, but is nearly full length in the Lavender). I appreciate the multiple pocket options- hand warmer pockets (albeit a little close together in the front), patch pockets and additional behind those. Interior chest pocket as well. Love the matte finish. Wish I had a use for this! Seems to run a bit large/roomy- I am 5'5, 165 with 36DD and the 8 fit me in an oversize sweater.

I’m a big fan of Barbour as owners of two of their wax jackets and adding this coat to my collection did not disappoint. It was exactly what I was looking for: long, warm, soft and not stiff like rubber rain coats, can wear in the rain. I wouldn’t wear it in a storm but feels like it would hold up in light rain / sprinkles while out and about. I was in awe of how soft and cozy the coat felt given its scale. This is the jack of all trades coat that I’ll be grabbing for in the cold weather! I bought a 4 US usually a size 2/xs/26.

I love the cut and it really is waterproof. My only reservation is that there is a clean kit on offer from Barbour for this coat but it is only sold in the UK to those who have a UK address. I contacted Barbour to ask if there was a clean kit I could purchase in the US and there is not. I got a stain on the coat and resorted to using Shout to remove to stain. Unfortunately, it left a bit of a white residue. It's a lovely coat but it might be a little high maintenance to keep it looking nice for years to come.
