A decent trail running shoe
I tested the women’s Sylan 2 trail shoes on some hot, sunny, Southern California dirt trails. The first thing I noticed right out of the box was the potent rubber smell. These shoes smell very strongly of rubber! They do perform pretty well, though. They are lightweight and the Vibram soles are great for downhill trail runs - they make me feel secure in the fact that I won’t slip. The terrain I ran on was pretty rocky, so that is an important feature. I do think these shoes could use a bit more breathability though, and could definitely benefit from a lighter color sole. They got pretty hot while I ran in them. They have a good amount of cushion, but overall I wouldn’t choose these shoes again. I prefer the shape and stability of my Topo Athletic Ultrafly 6 running shoes. They are not trail runners but they are comfortable!
Note: I received these shoes for free in exchange for my honest review.

arcteryx.com response
Hi there, thank you so much for sharing such a detailed review of the Sylan 2 Shoe. We’re glad to hear you found them lightweight, well-cushioned, and secure on rocky downhill trails; cushioning and stability are some key features we aim to deliver. We’re sorry to hear they didn’t fully meet your expectations in terms of breathability, shape, and stability compared to your other running shoes. Your feedback about heat buildup and the suggestion for a lighter-coloured sole for hot, sunny trail conditions is especially helpful. We truly appreciate you taking the time to share your experience, and we’ve passed your insights along to our design team to help inform future improvements. Thanks again for your honest review!

Light & Sweet!
I continue to wear my Sylan 2 shoes for just about anything. From a chill dog walk in the neighborhood to scaling limestone or a quick run on local trails. These shoes make me feel invincible. The hi-vis color I got and the overall responsiveness are probably my favorite aspects of this shoe.
They really thought of it all when they designed this shoe! The cushioning is right where it should be. The shoe laces rarely come untied (most notably untie when I don't double knot.) I love bounding around in them- on/off rocks and on steep inclines. Even when it's wet, these shoes still have traction. They are breathable and honestly get me a few inches closer to the sky.
Basically, I feel like a badass angel with sweet limoncello feet. Propelling my way to victory no matter the activity. Thanks Arct'eryx for the attention to detail, and inspiring confidence in every pivot, stride, and terrain.
*Areas for improvement:
- My foot is slightly wider, so would love this same shoe in a wide size to ensure I can wear them longer without experiencing and numbness or blisters over longer runs/hikes.
- The heel fabric - love that it is forgiving, but sometimes it will fold down with movement. Doesn't mess with performance, but maybe it doesn't need to go up as high.

Great improvements from Sylan 1!
The Sylan 2 has quickly become my favorite trail running and hiking shoes. The rocker geometry provides excellent propulsion, making every stride feel smooth and efficient. Cushioning is responsive while still offering enough protection for long mountain days. Traction is outstanding on dirt, rock, and mixed terrain, giving me confidence to move fast and the new spread out tread pattern does't trap rocks or debris. I love that the Sylan 2 has a trimmed back heel shape! It makes it less bulky than the Sylan 1 with the same great stability.
