Norvan LD 4 GTX Waterproof Running Shoe

Don’t wear this shoe when it is cold because the sole hardens and you risk to slipping is greatly increased I know first hand also the back part of the shoe is suppose grip well in the back it does but then it rips in about a month. Walking on grass pushing a lawn mower there is good support Overall i would not recommend this shoe I also noticed walking on wet trails with root there is no grip Can slip on off camber slopes to easy

Bought about a year ago and I have used them for outdoor work and all season hiking. Decent shoes and fairly comfortable once you break them in but the durability is incredibly questionable. I can’t say I’ve put them through a lot of stress- the majority of the use is walking around the forest for work or on hikes that I wouldn’t put in the category of difficult. Compared to other hikers and runners on the market, I would not recommend it. There are tears in the stiff synthetic fabric after minimal use in my opinion- one year shouldn’t hardly be enough and the seam taping is beginning to peel off in places. The gore tex, for the price, seems excessive. I have crossed many a puddle and stream with many other trail runners and hiking boots and have yet to arrive at the campsite with wet socks), I would highly recommend you skip these and go try on some less “gorpy” brands if you plan to actually run and hike instead of these shoes that seem as though they were essentially designed for no more than a light walk down the street to the local espresso shop.

I really wanted to like the Norvan LD 4 GTX. I respect Arc’teryx as a brand, and I bought this shoe because I was looking for a lightweight, waterproof, high-quality option for long walking and extended time on my feet. Unfortunately, it did not work well for my use. After wearing the shoes during an 8-hour shift, I experienced significant pain in the ball of my foot, heel, and calf. The pressure was especially noticeable where the toes meet the sole. My right foot also did not feel properly secured inside the shoe, and I had to use a heel grip to reduce movement. The bigger concern for me is the visible tearing/separation and stress on the side area of both shoes, around the point where the forefoot bends during walking. This happened with normal walking and toe flexion, not from unusual use. I have attached photos to show the area clearly. I understand that this model is designed primarily as a trail running shoe, and fit is very individual. That said, for long walking, extended standing, or work-shift use, I don’t think this shoe provides enough forefoot comfort or rearfoot stability. I also think the side/forefoot flex area may benefit from stronger reinforcement in future versions. I’m sharing this feedback respectfully because I genuinely value Arc’teryx products and hope this kind of real-use experience can help improve future footwear designs.

I have too many pairs of shoes but these are by far my favourites. They are by far the most comfortable running shoes I have ever owned. I bought them in black and just ordered blue. Only complaint is I wish there more colours.

I purchased these in Oct of 2025. I've most often worn them commuting and hiking. Very stable on the trail, light on the feet while providing excellent support. I've experienced no material degradation issues. I also have an above average width foot and the toe box is perfect for me.

The Norvan LD 4 GTX is a great shoe with one major exception. The great: comfortable and very stable on trail; the perfect balance of stability and cushion; protective of the foot in the right places, great traction on trail. The small updates from the previous version (I had the Norvan LD 3 non-GTX) make a huge difference. The Norvan LD 4 has a bit more room in the forefoot, more stability and foot protection, making a better fitting and better feeling shoe overall. The disappointing: fabric durability is lacking again in this version. After two on-trail outings (30 miles total) there's already a hole in the fabric at the flex point. The Norvan LD 3 wore quickly at the same point, but the LD 4 GTX seemed like it had more robust material so I gave it a shot. I can't believe that an Arcteryx product with the LD (long distance) moniker would give out so fast after 30 miles, especially with the product description of a "durable upper" for runs over "mud, roots, and rocks" -- that's exactly my use case, all on trail. None of my other trail runners show wear anything like this until after many hundreds of miles.
