Designed for extended use in severe alpine conditions, this ultra-tough jacket is waterproof, windproof, breathable, lightweight and abrasion-resistant. It is updated with GORE-TEX Pro ePE fabric technology so the shell is lighter and thinner but just as strong and durable as the materials the brand has used before. A helmet-compatible StormHood™, pit zips and articulated construction allow for customizable coverage and comfort, while WaterTight™ zippers and minimized seams shed grams.

Durable waterproofing

The best at waterproofing and durable material that’ll last a very very long time. Love it. Caution though, size down, these things are huge!! I’m 5’8, 140 and usually wear a small in beta sl, I had to go extra small in these. And yes, I had a lot of room for layering.

Seams fell apart

While I purchased this jacket a long time ago, I haven't worn it much. Mostly I've carried it in my pack as a backup in case of bad weather. The fabric and zippers still look like new. Like now, it was a very expensive purchase. Unfortunately, the glued seams in the cuffs, hem, and waist have failed, and the jacket is coming apart. Arc'teryx was responsive to my warranty claim but, in the end, only offered to reimburse me for about 10% of the cost of a new jacket. It wasn't worth returning it, and I've kept the jacket for light-duty activities like dog walking and working in the yard. I've purchased another brand of hard shell for more serious outdoor activities. In my opinion, a jacket at this price point should last basically forever, or at least until the fabric wears out. I'm disappointed with both the jacket's quality and the Arc'teryx warranty.

23 Years Later, Still Standing Behind It

Incredible durability. My last Alpha SV lasted 23 years before it started to delaminate, and Arc’teryx still fully warrantied it and replaced it with a new one. Amazing jacket and even better warranty.

The best shell for snowboarding

I'm really excited to wear it for snowboarding this year. Durable GORE-TEX Pro material and the pit zip really helps adjust the breathability.

Alpha SV

Overall the jacket serves its purpose as a technical fit for purpose jacket, the pockets are great for harnesses/waist belt access and I’ve never put a hole in the face fabric. I used this jacket day in and out as a guide so a lot of the issues I face are long term for the general user My main gripe with this jacket is how many non fixable issues it seems to have, I have had this jacket replaced twice in the last twelve months due to honestly some pretty annoying design flaws. The first one the seem sealing in the hood started to peal and I was told it’s due to wearing a helmet in a helmet hood. The second one all the of the draw tabs are glued into place against the jacket, the glue fell apart on 3 of 4 release buttons and wasn’t able to be fixed. Overall its a bomber jacket that most people will get years of use out of unfortunately that’s just not what I’ve seen and I’ve since moved over to the new sperro

10 year old shell, still bulletproof

I'm surprised read all the bad reviews. I've had my Alpha SV shell for about 6 or 7 years now and it was a few years old when a friend gave it to me. I have worn it for 8 years of aggressive resort skiing(sending 30 footers consistently and thrashing through trees) in Whistler, countless backcountry ski tours, winter mountaineering, summer summits, packrafting, basically I've thrown everything possible at this shell and it looks the same as when it was given to me. I don't know if quality is worse on the newer jackets but mine is bulletproof.

Too delicate for price, warranty not helpful

Durability is poor, I have holes in the back of the neck from 5 years normal wear. I have other less expensive garments lasting 15 years. You should expect this delicate garment to tear with any poking shale rock or any poking branch. It will not tolerate much rope burn. Weatherproofing is excellent if you regularly treat it with their spray. It does breathe very well, dries well, and the zippered arm pits are fabulous if you can reach them. The hood can be tailored to daily needs and it stays in your settings. The brand stores will patch it for free and the patches do stick well. The Banff brand store was surprised it lasted 5 years so far - not sure if that is a poke at me or the garment. Replacement will be from another brand. TL,DR: technicals good, value proposition bad.
