Designed for extended use in severe alpine conditions, this ultra-tough jacket is waterproof, windproof, breathable, lightweight and abrasion-resistant. It is updated with GORE-TEX Pro ePE fabric technology so the shell is lighter and thinner but just as strong and durable as the materials the brand has used before. A helmet-compatible StormHood™, pit zips and articulated construction allow for customizable coverage and comfort, while WaterTight™ zippers and minimized seams shed grams.

Seams fell apart

While I purchased this jacket a long time ago, I haven't worn it much. Mostly I've carried it in my pack as a backup in case of bad weather. The fabric and zippers still look like new. Like now, it was a very expensive purchase. Unfortunately, the glued seams in the cuffs, hem, and waist have failed, and the jacket is coming apart. Arc'teryx was responsive to my warranty claim but, in the end, only offered to reimburse me for about 10% of the cost of a new jacket. It wasn't worth returning it, and I've kept the jacket for light-duty activities like dog walking and working in the yard. I've purchased another brand of hard shell for more serious outdoor activities. In my opinion, a jacket at this price point should last basically forever, or at least until the fabric wears out. I'm disappointed with both the jacket's quality and the Arc'teryx warranty.

Too delicate for price, warranty not helpful

Durability is poor, I have holes in the back of the neck from 5 years normal wear. I have other less expensive garments lasting 15 years. You should expect this delicate garment to tear with any poking shale rock or any poking branch. It will not tolerate much rope burn. Weatherproofing is excellent if you regularly treat it with their spray. It does breathe very well, dries well, and the zippered arm pits are fabulous if you can reach them. The hood can be tailored to daily needs and it stays in your settings. The brand stores will patch it for free and the patches do stick well. The Banff brand store was surprised it lasted 5 years so far - not sure if that is a poke at me or the garment. Replacement will be from another brand. TL,DR: technicals good, value proposition bad.

Funeral colours

Have been waiting to replace the previous version that fell apart and that, despite a lifetime warranty, Arc’teryx refused to honour/repair/replace. Sadly, whoever is in charge of colours at Arc’teryx seems to value the convenience of going straight from mountain to a funeral. Those colour choices are awful. Whenever, exceptionally, there is a more interesting brighter colour, it sells out immediately. For has also changed over time and is quite fitted without much room for layering.

Best jacket ever

An absolutely incredible fit and great mobility and weatherproofing. It’s my go to for my mountaineering objectives, including Ecuadors Chimborozo

Disappointed

My 2nd alpha in a row with front zipper breaking within 2 years each. 1st shell was exchanged, 2nd shell was repaired, now defective again. At this price/performance level, you think a simple zipper could "last".
