Chiffon Overlay Shutter Pleat Sheath Dress

We are going to an evening wedding and I needed a dress that was suitable for this time of the day. I ordered this in two sizes (both plus in 16 and 18). When I slipped the size 16 dress on I could not believe how thin it made me look. My husband said "Oh, I love it". He never comments so I knew I had a winner. The way the dress is designed it hides all the places that you would normally see with a dress on. It is very stretchy material. At first I did not think I was going to get the zipper up but with a little help it went right up. I have the typical figure of a mature woman. Large across the shoulders and a large middle section. The design is perfect for the full figured woman. You will not be sorry if you purchase this dress. You may even want to purchase it in several colors. I ordered the black one but they offer it in several very nice shades.

I ordered five different dresses for my 40 year reunion. This one came first and I was sure it was the one. It is perfect for a dressy daytime event like a wedding but not quite evening-ish enough to be called a "cocktail dress. It was very flattering on my apple figure.The pictures just don't do it justice and you can't see the shutter pleat detail in the pictures. It gave sufficient arm coverage that I was comfortable, and the shutter pleats and chiffon overlay were quite forgiving. I didn't think it ran large. The neckline is a little plain and needs dressing up with jewelry. But then this dress came: Alex Evenings Beaded V-Neck Sheath Dress with Capelet Overlay (Plus Size) and I was hooked. Since it was an evening event I went for the Alex Evenings dress and returned the shutter pleat dress. But if I get invited to a less-eveningy event I will re-order the shutter pleat dress because I really did like it.

This dress is gorgeous! The fit is perfect and true to size (with a little extra stretch). I purchased size 14W which is the size I normally wear due to having a fuller bust line. The chiffon caplet hides any flaws that one might have and covers upper arms well. The color is a very rich shade of periwinkle rather than light blue. The color is actually perfect since I purchased the dress to wear to a June wedding on the beach! (I'm wearing it for Easter as well). It's a little too long for my 5'6" frame. The hem line hit me slightly below my knees and I like to wear my dresses about 3" above my knees since my legs are my best feature. :) One last thing....I had to buy a half slip to wear under the dress since the fabric has a tendency to be a little sheer in the direct sunlight.

The dress is slightly darker in color than it appeared on my screen, not bright red nor burgundy. Definitely a pretty but distinctly fall shade. The stretchy skirt made it very comfortable and eliminated the need for spanx! My only complaint would be sizing. It definitely ran large, as stated, but mostly across the shoulders and neckline. I would absolutely order one size down if you're smaller busted or do not have wide shoulders. The top gaped a bit in the center once I hooked my bra straps in ( love those details). The chiffon is clingy to the dress, so a smooth cup bra is a must. Love this dress and felt comfortable in it. Could be dressed up or down with jewelry.
