Good sound, horrible comfort

I'm big fan of Sony products. After upgrading from my 7-year-old WH-1000XM3, I immediately noticed comfort issues with the new WH-1000XM6. The ear pads feel warmer with less ventilation, and my ears heat up far quicker than they ever did with the XM3. The fit is also too snug — the clamping force is strong enough that I get a headache after about 15 minutes. Maybe it’s because I have larger ears or wear glasses, but this was never an issue with the XM3. The sound and ANC are phenomenal, but the overall comfort is a big step down for me, especially at this price point. I really wanted to keep the XM6, but after two weeks of regular use, the clamping force still hadn’t eased up. Honestly, I wish could just repair my XM3s. They work fine, just the headband is taped up using duct tape becuase the plastic parts have cracked and sliding adjustments for the earcups no longer stay in place. One day, I hope Sony releases a model that returns to the comfort of the XM3/XM4s, and with a decent mic that doesn’t make you sound like you’re talking through a walkie-talkie.

Hi Toronto Sug, We truly appreciate your long-term loyalty to the Sony brand and your detailed feedback on the WH-1000XM6's comfort, especially coming from the WH-1000XM3. We understand that comfort is critical for all-day use, and while the XM6 was designed with a refined fit, wider headband, and new earpad material to offer a more secure and gentle seal for enhanced Noise Cancelling, we recognize that the clamp force and ear cup temperature can vary significantly based on individual head size, ear shape, and use with glasses. To help with the heat and snugness, we recommend taking short listening breaks to allow airflow, and for your broken WH-1000XM3, you can check our official parts and accessories page for available replacement sliders, cushions, or other repair components, or contact our customer support team for an official repair service quote to see if they can be restored. Your comments regarding a return to the XM3/XM4 comfort profile and improving the mic quality are invaluable, and we continually use customer insights like yours to drive future product development to meet the diverse needs of our passionate community. Thanks for choosing Sony. Best regards, Eliab
