Kork-Ease®
Kork-Ease began in Brooklyn in 1953 as a comfort-shoe company. In the disco-fevered '70s, the brand spurred a nationwide trend when its "buffalo" sandal—a cork-soled, sky-high, leather-strapped platform wedge—became the must-have shoe of the glitterati at Studio 54. Today, women choose Kork-Ease for its lightweight comfort, consistent quality, beautiful leathers and retro-inspired silhouettes.

Ava 2.0 Platform
I love the Ava platform sandal - there are 15 pairs of Kork Ease sandals and slides in my closet; all but two are the Ava 1.0 platform, in a variety of colors. I notice variations in quality over time, but continue to choose Kork Ease because they hold up well; I use them most frequently in a busy work environment, where I am on my feet for many active hours. I value their shock-absorbing comfort and versatile good looks, wearing them with nearly everything from silk skirts to dress trousers to jeans. Another reviewer mentions stretching of the elastic on the ankle strap - I do experience this, but a local cobbler is able to replace the worn elastic with a stronger version. My most frustrating issue is with straps that pull out of the foot bed and need to be re-glued; again, the cobbler has been able to remedy this, and I realize that I demand more of these shoes than most buyers. There are some differences between the Ava 1.0 and Ava 2.0 which bear mentioning: the improved cushioning in the foot bed of the Ava 2.0 is a nice addition, but changes the fit of the shoe, making the fit noticeably more snug, which I considered when ordering my usual size. I usually do not have a break-in period with Ava 1.0, whereas I worked in the Ava 2.0 for three hours and then changed to a different pair to circumvent slight stress on an oft-broken foot. The leather straps on these shoes stretches and softens nicely, so I am confident that the Ava 2.0 will be wonderful after another couple hours of wear. I am also hoping that the density of the new cushion reduces problems with straps pulling loose from the foot bed. I purchased the Ava 2.0 in black; when placed next to the Ava 1.0, the appearance is trim and refined, with a more shapely platform. These shoes are attractive, fun, and comfortable - I'm hoping to find additional all-leather or leather-and-suede versions in the beautiful solid colors Kork Ease offers.

Elastic Frayed
I bought similar sandals over a year ago. Went to wear them and the little elastic pieces holding the buckles started fraying. If I wear them again the buckles will fall off making the sandals completely unwearable. I love everything else about them and every other part looks new. It's just this thin elastic that is falling apart. So dissipated as I paid a lot for these. Can anything be done? Manufacturer said they couldn't help. A great brand is dropping its quality craftsmanship!!

Why did I wait?
At the risk of revealing my age, I will confess that I have wanted a pair of (the earlier version) of this shoe since jr. high....about 1975. (I had the Baker's (remember them?!) immitation, but always longed for the real Kork Ease!) For the past couple of years, I have looked at these online, but always talked myself out of them, thinking the "Golden Sand" color just wasn't what I wanted and unsure about the heel height. Somehow, I finally said what the heck - no such thing as perfection - and ordered. WOW! I was so wrong...these are indeed perfect! The color is just beautiful and the bigger surprise has been how incredibly COMFORTABLE the foot bed is on these sandles! Pure cush! The heel height - 3 inch - is really great. Not TOO high, but not "old lady" short either. The leather is just beautiful - solid, but molds to your foot within hours. My only complaint is that the "stick" part of the buckle is a bit short, making it harder to put through the hole than it should be. But having said that, the quality of the buckle is outstanding (not worried that it is going to break as so many do).

Exactly what i wanted
Normally I wear 8.5 or 39 . I got an 8 and it is a perfect fit. Love the boost in height while being supportive and really feels stable.

Great neutral sandal
I ordered 3 different colors in this sandal - Golden Sand, Vapor Grey & Off White Vanilla. I was trying to find the perfect nude color to get me through spring and summer. The Golden Sand is more of a cognac color and I felt was too dark. The Vapor Grey is more of a light beige color, and the Vanilla more of a true nude that I would say is darker than off white. All fit the same. I decided to keep the the Vanilla as it went the best with my fair to medium skin tone. I preferred the leather wrapped bottom instead of cork, but ultimately decided that the color of the leather was more important. The Vapor Grey would look better on a cooler skin tone.
The leather is a bit stiff, but I could already feel them breaking in as I was deciding on the color. I wish they had a color in between the light and the dark, but these will do. Kork-Ease are worth every penny if you need a good platform sandal with great arch support. They are versatile and will go with most of my spring and summer wardrobe.

Perfect platform sandal
First of all, size: I had to go up one full size, as suggested by other reviews. Normally I'm a 7 (or euro 37 or 38) and I ordered a size 8 in these. When they arrived I thought they were enormous and I put them on and they still seemed too big around the base of my foot, but I started walking in them and I guess they are meant to be like that because they are perfect and easy to walk in, not to mention comfortable.
Out of curiosity, about 3 weeks later, I ordered a size 7 in these, and they were basically too small. I think i could have persevered with them, but really the 8's felt so good I simply sent the 7's back. The 7s only just fit around the base of my foot and they were way too tight across the toes.
Comfort: these are awesome. Similar to other reviewers, the first time I wore these out, I was all day at airports and on planes (hello, feet swelling!), and I had no problems. I had very slight rubbing on the top of one toe after 9 hours of flights/walking. The leather is so soft and good quality. The platform itself is comfortable to walk in and gave me no foot pain, no leg fatigue, no aches, nothing, and it's normal for me to have foot pain in most shoes after a few hours walking.
Cost: these are worth every penny in my opinion, particularly if you can find them discounted a little of course. I'll be buying more.
Colour: I bought the black straps with tan/brown leather platform and they are perfect for me. The tan platform goes with all my other tan leather accessories.
Pairing: I pair these with jeans (skinny or rolled up to ankle) and long pants, short/knee length sun-dresses and some maxi dresses. They are perfect, casual and smart.
All in all, this is a great platform sandal and I'll be investing in more Kork-ease there is no doubt.
