Clothing Donation

Every year, billions of pounds of usable clothing end up in landfills. An easy way to reduce the environmental impact of fashion is to keep clothing in use for longer—whether it's in your closet or someone else's.
Through our clothing donation program, we hope to make it easy to give used clothing and accessories a second life. Together we can prevent waste and support nonprofit organizations. As part of our commitment to circularity, by 2025, Nordstrom aims to help customers donate 250 tons of used clothing and accessories.
Clothing donation is available by mail nationwide—or you can drop off donations in western Washington Nordstrom stores, at Nordstrom in New York City and at Nordstrom Locals in the LA area and New York City. All donations are directed to nonprofit partners, where they'll be sold to support community programs like job training, education and access to healthcare.
Our priority is to keep clothing in use and out of landfills. If there is an organization in your community that you prefer to support with your donations, we encourage you to continue donating locally.
Donate by Mail with Give Back Box
We've partnered with Give Back Box* so you can reuse the box from your recent Nordstrom order to donate to charities.
How It Works
1. Open Your Box:
When you order from us, save the box your order came in.
2. Pack It Up:
Fill the box with any gently used clothing, accessories and shoes you'd like to donate.
3. Print & Ship:
Print a prepaid shipping label from Givebackbox.com.
Close up your box, attach the prepaid label and drop it off at a UPS or USPS location.

That's it! Give Back Box partners with various charities, and your donation heads to the nearest one in need.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is clothing donation at Nordstrom?
Every year, billions of pounds of clothing end up in landfills. We want to provide a more sustainable option, so we offer a donation program that makes it easy to give used clothing and accessories a second life while also supporting nonprofit organizations.
Customers can donate items by mail, in one of our five western Washington stores, at the Nordstrom NYC flagship store or at Nordstrom Locals in the LA area and New York City. All donations will be directed to nonprofits, where they'll be sold in order to support community programs like job training, education and access to healthcare.
Who can participate?
The mail-in program is currently available to all customers in the United States, and in-store donations can be made in our five western Washington stores, at the Nordstrom NYC flagship store or at Nordstrom Locals in the LA area and New York City.
What can I donate?
Clothing, shoes, jewelry and household items can be donated. Items that cannot be accepted include electronics; liquids; ammunition; and fragile, hazardous or volatile materials. We also cannot accept large items (like furniture) in our stores. If you have questions about whether your item can be donated, please contact CSR@nordstrom.com.
Can I get a tax receipt for my donation?
Yes. If you mail your donation, you can create an account with Give Back Box and contact them directly to get a receipt. Receipts are also available for in-store donations. You can pick one up at the Service Bar, at the Concierge Desk in our Downtown Seattle store, or by asking a member of the staff at Nordstrom Local.
How can I find out where my mailed box of clothes is going?
When you mail in your donation, the name of the charity receiving your box will be printed on the prepaid postage label. All in-store donations in Washington and California will be sent to Goodwill. All in-store donations in New York will be sent to Housing Works.
Can I choose where my mailed box of clothes is going?
Not yet. But it's a feature Give Back Box is working to make available in the future.
Do I need to use a Nordstrom box when I send a donation by mail?
No. We're happy to help you donate to charities for free using any box. Just pack the box, go to Givebackbox.com to get your shipping label and put the box in the mail.
Where are the donation bins located?
Stores with donation bins place them in different locations, usually near an entrance. Just ask any salesperson if you need assistance.
What happens to donations picked up by Goodwill?
Those donations will be sold by Goodwill. The proceeds from those sales will support Goodwill's job-training and education programs.
What happens to donations picked up by Housing Works?
Those donations will be sold by Housing Works. The proceeds from those sales will support Housing Works' programs and services for people living with HIV/AIDS.
I don't live in western Washington, Los Angeles or New York City. Why can't I donate in my Nordstrom store?
We only offer this program in selected stores for now. We encourage you to donate clothes to organizations in your local community or take advantage of our mail-in option.
