Time ran out
Watch was purchased at Nordstrom due to poor customer service at another department store. However, the watch was not running when the gift was opened. With the receipt, I approached the watch/jewelry counter at the Old Orchard store, in Skokie, Illinois. I was passed off by one clerk to another clerk. I asked for a replacement piece, and was told they were out of stock. She said that it could be returned for a refund. I asked if they would give me a store credit for the amount of a new battery, as it was not offered by the clerk to have a new battery installed. She said no, but I could re-purchase the watch, have a replacement battery installed - at my own expense - and if it still didn't run, then I could return it. The battery would have been $50.00. So no, I was not going to spend my own money. Nordstrom never should have sold a watch that wasn't running. I left and went to the Nordstrom at Woodfield Mall, Schaumburg, Illinois the following day. I explained to the clerk, who was very understanding, of the issue and the run-around I had been given. He thought that their store might have a suitable replacement, but in the end, did not. The full refund was given without question. The clerk also thought that it was ridiculous that the other store had wanted me to replace a battery in a brand new watch, at my expense. As he also saw that the piece was sold out, he indicated another store, which did have the watch, at a lesser price. I have been a loyal Nordstrom customer for years - the service was always first-rate. I now see that all department stores have become the same. Customer service out the window. Extremely disappointed.
