Subterra 2 Hybrid Travel Bag

This is the most beautiful backpack I have ever had. The materials are sturdy and high quality. Not only can it be converted into a backpack but it can also be expanded as needed. The side handles are magnetic so they're not in the way when using it as a backpack. I love the many little compartments that I can stash away my travel essentials in. That said, it's not perfect. I do think the bag is a little over-engineered or over-designed. (1) The outside is made of a hard shell encased in a woven material, which adds a bit of weight to the bag. While it does add protection, I believe it's entirely unnecessary for a bag that is not meant to be checked-in, unless you plan on throwing it about on the conveyor belts at airport security. (2) The foam paddings in the electronics section are entirely too thick. Again, this is not a check-in bag so there's no reason to waste so much space adding too much padding to multiple interior pockets. They not only take up space from the bag's capacity, they add weight as well. This section is also meant to be against your back anyway, so that placement alone should already offer some protection to the items inside. All in all, I'm satisfied with this bag. I just hope for future iterations, Thule would consider this feedback.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I was so excited to receive this bag! I have a backpack I use for travel, but I’ve been wanting a more streamlined bag. This backpack can be used like a briefcase, backpack, or as a carry-on that slides into your suitcase. It’s perfect! When I received the bag, I initially felt disappointed because it was setup in its briefcase format, and i did not see the backpack straps. When I realized the straps were tucked away in the back zipper compartment, I was happy again! I’m a small female (5’0), so finding a bag that doesn’t overwhelm my frame is important. This bag is the perfect size. Not too big, not too small. It also looks good on my partner; who is 16 inches taller than me. There is plenty of room in this bag for my laptop, docking station, 184747 million cords, and various chargers on one side and a small bag with personal hygiene necessities on the other side. For fun, I folded up a small outfit and was able to fit that in the bag with everything else. If you are a gifted packer or you have a small bag of essentials and clothes, you can take that as well! My partner said he would easily be able to fit hygiene items and a dress shirt in the bag in addition to work/computer items.
