The Darted Barrel Leg Jeans

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I was looking for a perfect amount of loose-ness and fit as a on the go mom. I was hesitant on getting these but I am glad I tried them on as they are the perfect fit. I am 5’4 and the length is just right without it hitting the floor. True to size!

These were my first pair of Madewell darted barrel jeans (I bought and returned other barrel jeans from other brands that I tried). I love the wash, comfort, and fit of these. I wear them in a 28 and they fit loosely enough that they can be pulled up and down by only unbuttoning two buttons. That is a win because I was concerned about not being on board with a button fly. The Retro wash, as far as I can tell, is the only one with Tencel in the fabric. It is very soft and not rigid like the 100% cotton darted barrel jeans. The other great thing about these is that they do not have the weird seam in the back part of the seat of the jean. That is a big difference from the Danver wash pair that I bought after I got these. I like those, and in spite of being 100% cotton, they also fit me loosely enough to be able to pull them on and off by unbuttoning only two buttons, even though the denim is more rigid than the Retro. But the Danver wash pair has the seam in the back at the rear, and I'm very aware of that seam. It creates almost a hard knot in the fabric right where you sit. The best way I can describe it is it almost has a thong effect i.e. it's easy to notice that seam and where it hits. So long story short - I like both pairs but if I could have gotten the Retro wash jean fabric and lack of seam in a Danver wash as my second pair, the Danver wash pair would be as perfect as the Retro. If you hate the seam in the other versions of the darted barrel jean, try the Retro wash. It's a great pair of jeans and so comfortable! One more thing - i just love how restrained the barrel is on these jeans. It's there but it's subtle and the darts give such a nice shape and I love how these drape. I also like how they sit a little low on me and don't feel super high waisted due to that.
