What it is: A formula that instantly transforms from a cooling gel to a mattifying water toner as it clarifies, removes oil and visibly tightens pores.
What it does: Formulated to target oily and blemish-prone skin concerns, this toner leaves skin with a clear, shine-free appearance. Bentonite clay instantly mattifies excess oil while visibly reducing pore size. Marshmallow and green tea soothe and cool signs of redness and sensitive skin for a calmer-looking complexion, and cucumber and witch hazel extracts tone and tighten. Manuka extract, a stronger relative of tea-tree oil—in conjunction with black cumin and magnolia bark extract—provides natural purifying properties to balance oily and problem skin conditions, promoting a visibly improved, clearer, smoother and shine-free appearance.
How to use: Apply after cleansing skin. For best results, use your fingertips to massage the toner into your skin. It instantly melts from a cooling gel to a mattifying water toner upon application.

amazing toner
I have combination skin prone to breakouts and very sensitive. This was non irritating and works great to balance and mattify my skin. It absorbs easily (within ~20 seconds) and doesn’t have too strong a scent. It is non irritating and works to help prevent my breakouts. I have been using it for ~3 weeks and love it! It is now part of my daily skincare routine and I think really helps to balance my complexion.

Horrible Smell
I just purchased Martian for the first time and used it this morning. While the product did seem to work on my oily skin, the smell was horrible (as others have reported below). Unfortunately, I didn't read the reviews before I purchased. I use at least 4-5 Sunday Riley products daily and wanted to love this, but I couldn't get past the smell. I contacted CS and am returning the product. They said it does have a "peculiar" smell. It honestly smelled old/spoiled/rancid. Total bummer. Scents don't usually bother me. But it's seriously bad!! :(

Works Great- but the stink!!
No lie. As others have mentioned, it does have a somewhat familiar and particularly offensive odor! On the upside, it does dissipate as it soaks in (for the most part) and it helps if you're using this as your first product and then applying your moisturizer, sunscreen, and makeup over it. It is indeed matifying and works well for my extremely oily skin. I was looking for products that would leave my face more natural and reduce shine without needing a ton of foundation and powder. This is the perfect product. There must be something they could do to improve the odor!?

Core to my routine
I use it twice a day and the smell was weird at first but I'm totally used to it and think it's worth it. Please don't discontinue. And if you are going to discontinue, don't leave those that built a routine around your suggestions hanging without a good replacement

Best toner/primer! PLEASE BRING IT BACK!!!
I got this like 2 years ago and it is the only thing that works for me primer-wise before makeup as someone with acne-prone, combination but slightly more oily skin. The formulation of these ingredients in a gel but somehow incorporating the bentonite clay is something that no other product on the market has replicated. Please PLEASE bring it back - I agree with another review that said find a way to reformulate it with a different scent if that’s the reason production has stopped, just keep the main ingredients from the original!!!

Stinky Magic
It stinks like heck but only for the first few days. By then, you'll have the best case of Stockholm Syndrome ever and will never be without it. It literally healed my angry acne (I pick at it a lot) over a few days. I'm absolutely in LOVE with my stinky, magical Martian.
