Stormcraft Waterproof 700 Fill Power Down Parka

Purchased this style a couple of years ago for the workplace for the guys. They loved the fact the cold stayed outside of the parka, doesn't penetrate the parka whatsoever, the warmth of this insulation inside this parka, coupled with wind proofing & waterproofing made this parka the gamechanger in outdoor activities in the extreme cold of Ohio where the wind lashes extremely harsh.

Down insulated. Gore-Tex face fabric. Handwarmer chest pockets. Snorkel hood and collar. It's almost a masterpiece as there's so much to love about this parka. Personally, I think it's one of the best out there but I would like to see the addition of adjustable wrist cuffs and a waist cinch as opposed to only a cinch on the hem. I think something that's not valued enough when choosing a parka is the balance between proper sealing (and thus sizing), and range of motion. If both are acceptable - that's a decently fitting parka. If either aren't achieved, keep looking. I love the Stormcraft as it fit really well, except that it greatly limited the range of motion I required for my purposes. Looked great at rest, but I was fighting the jacket's construction when even just driving so I was forced to continue looking or another parka. I would say that the fit is only slightly more than true to size. I was in between sizes. Since parkas are widely known to be accommodating for properly layering, I sized down and got a small as opposed to being historically a medium. I was wrong on the small, but the medium's sleeves would have probably swallowed me, and the lack of adjustable wrist cinches would've made it a pain to manage. And also to note, the small Stormcraft, without realistic layering allowed me to be comfortable again. If it fits you and your purposes, this parka is the one to get. If you're in between sizes like I was, be prepared to do many many sides by side comparisons

Update. I bought my jacket about four years ago. It definitely keeps the cold and wind out. Only issue with my jacket was that the back got soaking wet due to it NOT being waterproofed from the manufacturer. I used it when clearing driveway.The rest of jacket was fine. I plan on buying waterproofing chemical to correct this since I just got soaked again.

I love this parka. I love that I can be in truly gnarly, crappy, windy, cold weather and be genuinely snug and warm and dry. Everything from the overall design, materials and workmanship is top-notch. It's the kind of parka that after you've owned it for a while, you want to buy it for your friends and loved ones...it's that good. I'm 5'10", 190# and got a medium - seems to be the right size for me. If I wanted to put a ton of layers on underneath, then maybe a large would be better, but then also the sleeves would be too long. This is such a great coat.

I bought this jacket and tested it out throughout the winter, often at -40 degrees. Pros: 1.) Durability- Processing wood in this jacket didn't leave a mark. 2.) Pockets- One of the best features are all of the pockets on this jacket. Especially the hand warmers. 3.) Warmth: I had no problem staying warm in this jacket. Cons: 1.) Size: Definately runs small. The arms are too short. 2.) Warmth: strangely, the arms don't seem to have the same insulation ability as the rest of the coat. Even when I had just left the house, the elbow area was immediately cold.

Had it for 2 seasons now. The pockets are good, the rest is a fail. It is- hands down- the coldest 'warm' jacket I've ever had. 47 chest, 39 waist, 6', so I needed a XXL; lots of room leftover in the midsection. There is no waist drawcord, only the hem which is around the thighs. Every step opens the hem, cold air moves up through the jacket, and out the neck AND SLEEVES. With a strong wind, it's much worse. The sleeve gather is of little value. A reasonable length scarf is needed to help seal the neck. The hood drawcords don't help much- tightening them just compresses the insulation and the rear neck and head area gets very cold, even with a hat. I need to wear a puff type hooded jacket underneath to remotely stay warm ( about 20~25˚). It seems to be more of a fashion garment, meant for subway and coffee shop touring. In the woods it's worthless (other than the pockets). It sits in the closet.
