St. Al Scented Candle

St. Al was the second Boy Smells scent I purchased. The first was Nordstrom-exclusive Purple Kush. I wouldn’t but either again — not bad scents but not delicious either. But! The scents are intriguing enough to keep me coming back to try more. I read the reviews for St. Al. Reviewers described it as floral and masculine, smelling like David Beckham and Jeff Goldblum. Eh, not so much. Floral? Yes. Masculine? No. It’s quite granny floral, but not in a dainty way. That’s when I made the connection of “Saint” in the title with a church, and now that’s all I think of: church candles, incense, mildewy pews, damp hymnals, flowers — a big, old Catholic church. That’s exactly what St. Al smells like. Lastly, cool packaging and great throw.

This is my second Bou smells candle and I specifically ordered it once I smelled a sample in store. I don’t love overly sweet candles and this one is not that. It smells like ylang ylang flowers mixed with sandalwood and musky incense. It reminds me of walking through the streets of Bali - lush floral mixed with incense and a sandalwood / sandal scent. Get it!! As a gift, for yourself - either way you won’t regret it.

The floral and clay notes are more powerful than the sandalwood to my nose. That said, they make for a very light, very lovely scent. I burnt this for almost 8 hours the first day I got it and the scent was strong enough to notice, but not nauseating or headache-inducing. I really enjoy this candle and will absolutely be trying other Boy Smells scents.
