Great, but...
This product ended up being amazing, but there is a DEFINITE learning curve on how to apply it, and it can be used in a much more economical way with a brush.
I'm constantly searching for black eyeliners. I prefer a gel or cream format, as I like being able to smudge it a bit, and I also like it to be as black as possible. I wasn't a fan of the Smashbox Cream liner, but this product intrigued me, and I had a Nordstrom Note to use, so I decided to give it a shot. To begin with, it really is a true JET black, which I like. The formula is a true cream, thick, intense, and dries down, but still smudgeable. The applicator is the tricky part. First, you need to click about 20 times for the product to dispense the first time you use it, but after that, one or two clicks will do for both eyes. The tip is a rubbery, flexible applicator that you can use to apply it directly. After some playing around, I found that it worked best to apply it using the tip, then smudge the line and move the product around with a tiny brush. After using it a few times, I've found that I've gotten better at working with the applicator each time. Still, I wouldn't recommend this for a beginner. I'm a freelance makeup artist, and it's taken me several tries to get the hang of this thing. But the product itself is great lasts FOREVER, stays dark black, and doesn't flake or run. The product won't dry out, as it's self-contained. I would repurchase this, and would recommend it, but don't expect something easy. If you want a quick grab-and-go, this isn't for you.
