Solid puffer if imperfect
I’m on the fence about this puffer. The quality is great. It looks and feels like it was made with great materials, design sense and performance. The hood is roomy, it covers everything and looks oversized and cool. The fabric is thick and structured, you can tell it’s water repellant. The sleeves are plenty long. The pockets are fleece lined - a must - and their placement is smart, they’re higher than normal pockets to avoid adding bulk at the hips and offer a more comfortable position to hold your arms/hands. I’m 5’10” and this hits me 2-3 inches below the knee. On a shorter person this would be very long, hitting mid-calf. It’s not a flattering length on anyone, but when you live in a place with sub-zero temps a full length puffer is a must and this is one of the best looking options I’ve seen. I stood outside in -5 temps with wind and was plenty warm, so I have no concerns about performance. What I’m on the fence about are the weight and sizing. This is a heavy coat. Other companies have figured out how to make these huge puffers lightweight-ish without sacrificing warmth or water resistance, I’m not sure why this brand hasn’t done the same. And the sizing is tricky. I’m a US12 and sized up to a 5 to ensure comfort while moving, driving, wearing thicker clothing, etc. But it’s too large in the shoulders and presumably heavier than a 4, which I fear would be snug around my hips but would be lighter. A hard choice, but the weight will probably be the deciding factor. Also, a small con: I don’t like the snaps on the bottom. With a bidirectional zipper, the flap is unnecessary and creates a slight flare at the bottom that negatively affects the silhouette and lets more cold air in when it and the zipper are closed. It’s not a dealbreaker.
All in all, yes it looks like a sleeping bag, all long puffers do, but it’s probably the prettiest sleeping bag you’ll find. It’s very warm. It’s heavy. You might struggle with sizing. But is any long puffer perfect?
