The Raw Copper Ashtray is sand-cast from a wood mold in a local foundry. The copper arrives raw, no coating, no treatment, and will oxidize gradually, developing a patina particular to where it sits and how it's handled. At a pound and a half, it rests with real weight on a full-grain leather base to protect the tabletop below. It's copper given a useful shape.
- The copper will oxidize over time – that's the point. If ash or residue builds up, wipe the interior with a dry cloth or a soft brush. For a deeper clean, a little warm water and mild soap will do it. Avoid commercial metal polishes; they'll strip the patina and return the surface to a brightness that takes time to earn back.
- The leather base is unfinished and will darken with contact and age. Keep it dry. If it picks up a scuff, a small amount of unscented leather conditioner worked in with a cloth is enough.
