Fragrance story: Victoria Beckham evokes the enrapturing fragrance of burgeoning romance through the memory of Portofino ‘97: A euphoric hit of calabrian bergamot and black pepper, crisp white sheets suffused with incense and amber, patchouli and vetiver lingering on the skin of a significant other.
Portofino '97 is the rush of a burgeoning romance: the adrenaline, the flirtation, the infatuation. It's the thrill of a secret escape—an ode to the early rendezvous of Victoria and David to the Italian seaside—all bottled up. A tease of the fresh sea breeze is clouded with incense and amber, a lingering trace of patchouli, musk and vetiver punctuate the desire.
Each responsibly-crafted fragrance is bottled in a flacon inspired by a vintage parfum bottle Victoria collected while traveling. The blue enamel of the Portofino ’97 bottle is reminiscent of the blue waters of the Ligurian Sea.
Created in collaboration with the master parfumier Jérôme Épinette, the genderless artisinal fragrances are instinctively crafted to embody the essence of Victoria's fashion and beauty brand.

Delectable!

Walked into the Beauty section where someone had just sprayed this perfume and I fell in love with the sweet fruit aroma. I couldn’t justify spending that much money on a perfume but I also spent the whole evening smelling my wrist where I had sprayed it…I returned the next day to purchase! This is the perfect summer scent and would pair super well with the sultry 21:50 Reverie (spicy sweet).

Beautiful Scent for 15 minutes

This perfume smells lovely and is an excellent scent. However, not worth the money. I bought the Victoria Beckham sampler, with the 4 versions of her perfumes. The sampler perfumes all smelled great, with the two standouts being Portofino and San Ysidro. After using the samplers to discern if the perfumes had staying power (they did). Got compliments on both from several people. I took the plunge and bought the extra large Portofino and the large size San Ysidro. I have worn the full sized perfumes several times, they BOTH fade fast and dissipate after an hour. No compliments from anyone, and my husband told me he couldn’t really smell it on my wrist or neck. I feel like perfume makers are cheapening their products. I am tired of paying for scents that wear off or fade when applied. This perfume was sprayed with 8 pumps and couldn’t be discerned. Please fix this Victoria Beckham.

Beautiful bottle...wanted to love but...

The three stars are for the gorgeous packaging. I wanted to keep just for the bottle but it did not make sense because of the price. The smell has a hint of cotton candy but otherwise...not sure how to pinpoint the smell. It also gave me a headache almost within minutes! And it has no lasting power at least not on me. I wanted to love this so much that I even tried the San Ysidro...I am leaving a review for that as one as well. San Ysidro smelled better in my opinion but had more of a musky smell, which I did not love. And, same issue - no staying power. Lovely bottle and packaging but the scent misses the mark and also had no staying power. I wanted to love one of these scents but it just didn't happen for me. And while this expensive...I can see it being worth it if the smell/staying power was as great as the bottle.

Does not last

Let’s start with what Portofino 97 does well. The turquoise blue bottle is absolutely beautiful and immediately eye-catching. While it’s often compared to Bal d’Afrique, they are not the same fragrance. They are quite different. I tested Bal d’Afrique Absolute on one arm and Portofino 97 on the other. Bal d’Afrique is creamy, soft, and more demure, whereas Portofino 97 leans distinctly herbal and astringent, with a prominent vetiver/patchouli note. This profile could work well in hot summer weather; however, the longevity is lacking and requires frequent reapplication throughout the day. It lasts about 30-60 minutes and then gone!

Lovely

My first impression of this fragrance transported me to a summer by the water, a soft breeze brushing against sun-kissed skin. The fresh, bright citrus opening was a love at first sniff. As it settles, the musk and patchouli adds depth and quiet sophistication. It feels refined and timeless, yet modern. A total compliment getter and uniquely unisex. It doesn’t lean too masculine or too feminine. Moderate longevity. I will repurchase.
