Paisley Jacquard Peplum Coat

Beautiful concept but poorly executed. The choice of fabric is unfortunate. I expected this cocoon coat to be relaxed, as cocoon coats are; however, a coat of this shape is usually cut from a heavy, drapey fabric that will provide enough body to keep the shape but also drape enough to give a hint of the body underneath. The fabric used was like a very gaudy upholstery material. The fabric is so stiff it stands away from the body like a pitched tent. I used the AW size chart, but should have ordered my regular size. I have included a photo. The brocade is very shiny thread, and there is a metallic gold braid trim on the edges that is very brassy; not a subtle or pretty metallic. Would have exchanged for a size down if such cheap-looking and ill-suited fabric had not been used. If you still like this costumey coat, wait until it goes on sale, because it surely will.

I agree with the other reviewer. The material is "meh"...but it is a cute concept. I'm normally a size 16 in coats and ordered an XL. I was swimming in it and had to roll the sleeves up. I'm returning and ordering a large, but I think I can even go with a medium. Going to see how the arms fit though. The materials is pretty stiff but I'm hoping that sizing down will make it look more fitted even though this isn't a fitted coat. It just needs to not "hang". There is no closure so you want something that is not going to fall off your shoulders. I guess if I'm trying too hard to make it work, it might be a sign that it's not for me.
