A Grinder That Actually Lives Up to the Hype
I’ve been using the Fellow Ode Gen 2 for a while now and it has genuinely changed my home brewing experience. The grind consistency is exceptional, whether I’m dialing in for a V60, a French press, or batch brewing, the burrs produce an even, uniform grind that makes a noticeable difference in the cup.
The single-dose workflow is a huge plus. No retention issues, no stale grounds lurking in the chute, just fresh coffee every single time. The magnetic catch cup snaps on satisfyingly and makes cleanup effortless.
The updated Gen 2 burrs are a real upgrade, handling light roasts with ease and producing a clarity in the cup that I didn’t expect at this price point. The 11-step adjustment ring is intuitive, and the grind settings are repeatable, so once you’ve found your sweet spot, you can dial back in quickly.
Aesthetically, it looks great on the counter. Fellow clearly put thought into the design. It’s quiet enough that I don’t feel guilty grinding early in the morning, and the footprint is compact for everything you get.
If you’re serious about your coffee at home, the Ode Gen 2 is absolutely worth the investment. It’s the kind of tool that makes you want to brew more.

Total Failure to Function
I wanted to Love this grinder. It checked all the boxes for style, appearance, and enough volume for french press grinding. Unfortunately, I got one batch of grinds out successfully. The following five all jammed. After clearing the jams five times I was done. A 1/6 success rate was a total fail and I sent it back for a refund.

If Only it Ground Espresso
Great grinder for drip brewing, but do I really need a second grinder for espresso? Yes, I do, and it's holding me back from buying the new Fellow espresso machine. Will stick with my Breville Barista with a built-in espresso grinder for that need.

Better timer please.
The grind results are good, but the grind times being limited to 30 second increments is poor. Low end grinders have timers that increment by seconds. I have to weigh and put the exact amount of beans for every cup or pot I make. Add a better timer and I will love the grinder.

not the grinder I had hoped for
Coming from a Barratza I imagined an uptick overall. Turns out I was wrong. The physical of the Ode is pleasing. The sound output is a nice low rumble. The ground coffee is a tad worse overall. The machine began to stall after about a week of daily use. I had to disassemble the burr portion to clear the clog. It is not a simple task, plus the burrs should be calibrated prior to returning to the start. Obviously to me, this is going to be a tedious task weekly. The Barratza is much easier and straight forward for cleaning. The ground results seem lacking in actual change at different settings. Meaning a setting of six yields practically the same result as a setting of ten. There is a max setting of eleven which I can not imagine is coarse enough for a french press. After about two weeks, I had hoped my purchase would have me smiling.

We bought this after our original grinder broke down for the third and final time, after 5 years of usage. We very much like this brand and this machine and hope our new one will last longer than 5 years.
