Leather Pencil Skirt

This classic leather pencil skirt is going to be the foundation of my winter wardrobe. The designer quality of the butter soft leather looks like it's twice the price, while the smooth, fine stitching makes it fit like a glove. Paired with a sweater for daywear or a silk blouse and statement jewelry in the evening, this skirt is going to be the most worn piece in my closet.

The skirt is real leather but it’s not a luxe leather, it is lined with polyester and made in India. The size is true to size. I’m 5’6”, 155lbs and a medium fit like a glove on me. The price of leather these days are through the roof but the only reason I didn’t give a 5 star is because I think the price is high for the quality of the leather. Nevertheless, I’m keeping this skirt as the fit is really nice and again it is real leather.

I found this skirt while wandering through Tysons Nordstrom store , but they only had one size. I asked if it could be order and the sales assistant they told me they were sold out with the exception of extra small or extra large. I ordered the skirt in extra large to judge quality as often items made overseas are sometimes oddly sized. When th xl arrived I knew that I would pursued this sizes were available . I returned the extra large and ironically a medium appeared online that day. The medium is now in my possession. It fits my short torso well because I usually size up to allow high waisted styles to drop slightly and give me a longer appearance. The quality of the leather is ‘pretty-good’. A few of the panels of leather in front that had some odd wrinkling -while the rest of the skirt is very smooth. It appears this is likely the quality of the hide - and if I could exchange it for another medium, I probably would try. The shape is excellent for a pencil skirt and while it is long , hemming a leather skirt is not challenging. to give you size reference, I am a 28 in mid rise denim , a 29 if a pant is high waisted. i’m 5’1”, 134 pounds and wear a size 6 most of the time. I wish Nordstrom‘s would lean into trending fashion and continue to add items like this - instead of all the generic clothing that is repetitious. With private label, you have an opportunity to really make a special statement - and I would shop in Nordstrom‘s department that was contemporary designer inspired if I found that the items were on trend and special. Every department store looks so much the same that it’s hard to be inspired ….especially after looking at the same brands at each This drives me online to specialty retailers that provide trend or inspired pieces. as someone who works to only acquire quality or special for my closet – I think they’d find more of us would shop if the offerings were more inspired.

I haven’t decided if I’m going to keep this. I am 5’6 and surprised at how long this skirt is. I generally do not have to have dresses or midi length items shortened. I don’t like how Nordstrom charges for alterations even though they claim you get notes back. It’s misleading to say you have $300 in alternations. It they still charge you your cash $ to get the services done.
