Fiji Large Diamond Hoop Earrings

Bought these earrings and wore them right away, they were great. They have lots of sparkle and are a little heavy but not awful. Did not wear them for almost a year after that, but they were stored nicely in a jewelry box, alone it their own compartment and were not banged around or pressed against. The next time I wore them, I put one hoop through the earring hole and when I went to put the back on, the earring back separated from the hoop and the hoop fell on the floor. I was shocked. $1000 earrings should not separate on the second wear. I figured it was too much to ask Nordstrom to repair them when it had been over a year since I purchased them and they wouldn't believe they had only been worn once. A local jewelry store charged me $80 to repair the earrings (they figured the other hoop would have the same issue and proactively did both earrings). Here's hoping the repair did the trick and they don't break again. I love Monica Vinader jewelry but would never buy another expensive pair of earrings from this brand after this experience.
