Mighty Stagg [X] Pour Over Set

I wanted this for when I needed a quick cup of coffee. There is not a thing quick about this. It is very hard to figure out the coffee vs. water ratio. Does not keep coffee warm and you can’t put it on a warmer so I don’t see any point to this little money maker. I mine as well use my Chemex and the FELLOW STAGG POUR OVER KETTLE…at least I would know it was going t come out perfectly.

We bought this set for a birthday gift. During the unboxing, the smell of rotten stale old coffee filled the room. We realized that Nordstrom sent a USED STAINED UNWASHED PRODUCT. It still had coffee residue from the last customer that bought and returned the item. How embarrassing!!! The rumors are right; Nordstrom is no longer a luxury retailer. Their customer service will not do anything to compensate for this horrible experience.

I've been a pour over fan for over a decade, and have always found the process a little bit annoying with a wide variety of setups. Chemex and Hario don't compare. Inevitably, the conical filter will occasionally tear, and I find that the saturation through the grinds isn't evenly timed when it comes to a steep point so quickly. This pour over kit is magical. I LOVE the fit on a coffee mug or the glass carafe (which I use, I have small coffee mugs and never know what to do when I have more water to use for my bean amount so I end up wasting it. This is a nice little buddy for the pour over. Now, the main star of the show, the actual pour over maker. The flat design makes a beautiful waterfall pour, which saturates the beans much more evenly than the traditional conical point. It comes with a little funnel that makes it SO easy to put the grounds in. It has a little rubbery base so that it doesn't slide off of a glass. Never have to fear the filter ripping at a seam (because it doesn't have one!). Since the area is fairly small, the filter does fold up into it which is good, but the folds are pretty big so it can be hard to capture all of the grounds when you're pouring over them because they can get tightly tucked into the folds. A smaller fold in the edge of the filter would be so much better so you can really do the classic round motion pour and not miss grounds caught in the nooks and crannies of the folds. That's a drawback, but on the filter not the actual kit. It rinses super easily, you don't have a lot of lingering drip from the filter like I find with the conical shaped ones. Overall, love love love. The measuring dots inside are so great for measuring your grounds, I admit I hate having to weigh coffee out so this is much more efficient and makes a great ratio. The little dot on the glass carafe is a perfect complement, showing you where the water line is for the right ground-to-water ratio. The lid, main body, and funnel tuck together nicely for tidy storage. I do wish the carafe had two dots for water lines, so that I can actually use double grounds for two cups (the lid has measurement marks for two cups, but the carafe doesn't). I'm surprised it only has the water line guide for one cup.
