Poor durability — strap anchor tore quickly
I really wanted to like these Merrell Trail Glove 7 A/C kids shoes because the barefoot design is great and they’re lightweight and flexible. Unfortunately, the durability is disappointing — especially for a kids shoe at this price point.
After normal use, the strap anchor point on the side of the shoe tore away from the upper. The plastic ring and Velcro strap are still intact, but the fabric loop that holds them ripped right out of the stitching. This makes the shoe impossible to secure properly.
What’s frustrating is that this exact spot is clearly a stress point for kids — they pull the strap every time they put the shoes on. The material used there is too thin and not reinforced, so it fails long before the rest of the shoe wears out.
The soles and overall structure still look fine, so the shoe had plenty of life left if not for this weak construction detail.
For a brand like Merrell, I expected much better durability. Kids shoes need to handle repeated pulling and rough use, and this design just doesn’t hold up.
Would not buy again unless the strap attachment is reinforced in future versions.

Does not hold up to general wear and tear
2 months in and the front toe guard fabric has split and is falling off. Does not hold up to general every day wear and tear. Would not recommend.

Picky shoe wearer satisfied
Great quality, fit and style. What I expect of Merrell. My daughter is particularly picky about her shoe fit and she loves these! I was unsure about the minimalist sole (but still good support), as I have the adult version and understand how they feel. But she put them on straight out of the box and made me run around a full city block with her! And she’s never worn out a pair of Merrells. These will last until she grows out of them.

Width not accurate
The shoes say M width, but they are more like a narrow.
