Merrell offers comfortable, superbly crafted footwear for all sorts of outdoor adventures. The company was founded in 1981, designing its first pair of hiking boots with the simple yet enormous goal of getting more people outside. Merrell has always believed in the power of the trail: "When you've got air in your lungs and good shoes on your feet, you've got everything you need."
My shoes and I went to the Cotswalds for a 5-day walking/hiking trip with Backroads. The shoes were new, but comfortable and worked perfectly for this trip. We only had one day of rain, but that experience provided a good test for how waterproof the shoes are.

Not comfortable for mountain hiking
I’ve had Merrill boots before and have loved them. In fact these replaced another pair I had. Unfortunately these boots leave a lot to be desired. In the store trying them on, they felt comfortable and I was certain they would be a good replacement. However after using them for a couple hiking trips (first trip I thought it was my socks, second trip was no better) they are very uncomfortable…like walking on concrete for 5 hours; there is no cushion for the ball of the foot and walking over scree fields was pure torture. I will use these boots only for walking in snow around town.

Baptism by freezing rain
I tried on over 20 pairs of waterproof hiking shoes befire I found the Moab 3 waterproof shoes. They arrived 2 days before a 4-month trip to canada,.alaska, japan and qatar. I put the Merrell wool inserts into them.prior to trip.
I have put almost one hundred miles on them in the first 12 days. About 7 hours were spent in bitter cold blowing rain in alaska, and we hiked several miles in canada in light rain in damp woodlands. I am absolutely shocked that my feet stayed dry! The shoes are heavy, and they obviously dont breathe well...but they serve the purpose of keeping my feet dry and are stable on wet surfaces. I have beeen taking out the wool inserts as soon as i get back to hotel
They dry quickly, as do the shoes. Hoping they dont buuld up bad odor since they arent breathable.
I generally go barefoot and have a wide forefoot, narrow heel and high arches. I had to get the extra wide width to have comfort for forefoot and top of foot. Iam surprised that my heel isnt slipping and blistering.

Ouch!!!
This shoe with such great reviews (read the small print that AI generates them based on real customers reviews) was an ill-fitting shoe that left me with crippling heel blisters. So, beware before you quickly buy a pair. Merrell should be more honest with how they present reviews so everyone can make a more accurate assumption of the product.
Ouch!
