Jungle Moc Athletic Slip-On (Men)

Merrell ruined these shoes. I've been wearing merrell slipons as my daily wear shoes for the last 10-15 years, but the last two pairs of jungle mocs I bought (I'm not sure if it's a model number, but both are marked J52931) l have had horrible foot beds. There's now lumps under the balls of my feet - it feels like my sock is folded over and over time is surprisingly painful. I kept hoping they'd break in - instead I ended up at a podiatrist. Bought the second pair assuming that it was just a defective pair, but they were worse. It's definitely a problem with the design - I started wearing my old beater pair (possible model ID J60787) and my foot pain slowly resolved. Wore one of the new pairs for a day as a test and the pain was back. The problem is in the shoe itself, so replacing the insert wouldn't help. I've been periodically trying them on at shoe stores hoping they'll go back to the previous design but no luck so far.
