Luminescent Eye Shade Eyeshadow

I wanted to love these eyeshadows - the colors are gorgeous, the packaging is adorable, and I love the idea of supporting Chantecaille's environmental philanthropy. I bought three (Cheetah, Elephant, Pangolin) online before they landed in my Nordstrom. I was hoping that the shadows would be pearly and shimmery. But they are full of teeny pieces of glitter. Even after I bought the special brush and patted the shadow on (instead of sweeping, per the instructions of amazing makeup artist and local Chantecaille expert Natalie), I still had bits of glitter all over my face. It got into my eyes and irritated my contacts. And, as you can probably tell from this drawn out complaining review, I am definitely TOO OLD to wear glitter eye shadow.

I can understand the less favorable comments below. I am 67-years-old and do not want real sparkle or glitter, so a full look with multiples of these shadows is probably not for me. However, I found that a light application to my eyelids of the Cheetah shade, which is a light golden sort of color, gave me a nice, more awake appearance. I normally don't apply eye cream to my eyelids in the morning if I plan to wear eyeshadow, but I applied a very tiny bit of a lightweight eye cream and gave it time to work, then applied a small amount of the shadow with a brush and it smoothed out nicely. I can recommend the Cheetah shade. In addition, any support for vanishing species is a plus for me.

These are my first Chantecaille shadows and I'm very happy with them, probably why I ended up buying ALL the colors. These are very flattering tone wise and I think would look good on most people's skin tones and eye colors. Very earthy and natural, hard to go wrong. I appreciate these are mixable and I use more than one color together often. I have ended up using cheetah, lion and pangolin the most as a base color or by themselves and giraffe, rhino and elephant as accent corner colors. (I'm medium skin tone so all rhino, giraffe or elephant would be a dark smokey eye look for sure.) All the colors (except for cheetah) make my blue eyes pop. I find cheetah is a great base or for a nice natural look day. These are iridescent and have glitter (see my review photo) which I enjoy. Some minus points would be depending on humidity may have to touch up your shadow and the price point ($52 ouch) but I have used these daily for months and a little does go a long way. Can't wait for Chantecaille's next colors to come out, great quality and brand.

The colors are very pretty. I bought Giraffe and Pangolin. However, the shadows are extremely glittery and on the sheer side. I also got a ton of fallout while putting the shadows on and afterwards. I have bought and liked Chantecaille shadows in the past, but I do not care for this formula at all.

I pre-ordered two of these new colors - Rhino and Elephant - and I'm now back for more. These are perfect for single shadow looks (which I love!) though I'm sure they will be great for combinations, too. I'm so happy with everything about these, from the formula and packaging to the emphasis on supporting charitable work. I'm also going to get a backup of Rhino because it is unusual and absolutely stunning on my light brown eyes and fair skin. Gorgeous with the new cheek gelee color (Vibrant). Hoping Nordstrom will start selling the entire Chantecaille line...
