- Curing a lava stone is crucial to prepare it for use and ensure its longevity.
- Wash the stone with water and dry with a soft cloth. DO NOT use any type of detergent or soap as the porous stone could absorb the soap and affect future flavors.
- Place the stone in a cold oven, then set the temperature to 400-500 F to heat the stone gradually. Leave on for 30 minutes to ensure entire stone is evenly heated.
- Turn off the oven and let stone cool gradually inside the oven. Lightly brush with a thin layer of vegetable oil to create a non-stock surface and enhance the stone's performance.
- Cleaning: After use, allow the lava stone to cool completely. Brush off any remaining debris with a dry brush or damp cloth. Avoid using soap or submerging the stone in water. For tough stains, apply a paste of baking soda and water. Let the paste sit for 10 - 15 minutes, then scrub with a soft brush or cloth.
