The front flap and inset panel at the foot allow fresh air to circulate on a warm day, and the flexible construction allows it to be folded up along with the stroller. In the flat position, the cot and mattress together provide extra back support for babies up to 6 months; once your little one can sit up, the mattress can be removed and the cocoon cover can be used as a cozy footmuff.
