Orange Blossom Cologne

This has been my favorite fragrance for the past 10+ years. My last two purchases I noticed it didn't last very long, and the scent was simply not as 'rich' as previous bottles. It looks, smells and feels lighter than previous bottles. I looked online to see if the formula had changed and did read several reviews stating the same experience. Scent does not last, and the formula seems to have changed. Rather than a beautiful, rich yet summer scent of orange blossoms, it feels light going on, has no dry down and no lingering scent whatsoever. In the past it was not unusual for me to be stopped on the street by women asking what perfume I was wearing. Now no one knows I have anything on! I gave up on Jo Malone and ordered at least 3 other perfumes trying to find a good replacement for this classic orange fragrance, yet returned each one. Some were too heavy, some too sweet, others more spicy and masculine. As one last attempt with Jo Malone I decided to go straight to the source at the Nordstrom Jo Malone counter at Washington Square. I specifically asked if the formula has changed in recent years, shared my experience with the sales rep, and was assured it had not changed in 19 years. So I purchased a large bottle only to get home and find that it was the same light fragrance as other recent and disappointing Orange Blossom purchases. It had no lasting scent of more than 15 minutes. I debated on keeping this bottle just to wear as a light bedtime scent, (which another reviewer mentioned) but that is just silly given the price. I am therefore returning yet another bottle of Orange Blossom and will continue my search for a replacement scent. Interestingly, the Nectarine scent that the sales rep sprayed my tissue paper with for the bag, lasted a good two days! I could smell it every time I walked into my closet. When I spray the Orange Blossom, I can walk back into the closet 30 minutes later and smell nothing. I am really disappointed and would appreciate input from a JM rep or Nordstrom Beauty rep who might have some insight into this mystery. By the reviews online this is not a new complaint.

The fragrance of orange blossoms has always been my favorite scent. Catching whiffs of orange blossom in the air in my garden, or driving along the freeway never fails to fill me with bursts of happiness. I've lived in Southern California most of my life, and there are certain smells that "are" Southern California to me. Even though Orange Trees grow in many places, the scent of California Orange Blossoms is unique, and I love it more than any other. California Orange Blossoms are light, jasminey, sweet, and clear. Their scent doesn't seem "heady" like Florida Orange Blossoms, but airy, due to the different humidity levels, soil composition, and atmosphere in California. Jo Malone Orange Blossom IS the scent of Southern California orange blossom. I've owned a huge bottle of this since I discovered it, and I won't be without it as long as it's around. Years ago, I remember reading that Jo Malone's inspiration for Orange Blossom Cologne occured during one of her stays at the original Hotel Bel Air, and I'll bet it's true. Jo Malone Orange Blossom brings visions of evening walks through palms and ferns, while listening to gentle fountains, watching swans quietly glide on a pond, and feeling intoxicated by the scent of orange blossoms in a sanctuary of fragrant gardens.

i've traveled to far in the world of fragrance, grabbing bottles and bottles of perfumes home from different parts of the world. They all bring back different memories. Chanel and romantic nights, Hermes and luxurious dinners, Diptyque and fun adventures, Santa Maria Novella and railway travels. But this one is unique, it has no memories attached for me. I go back to its' freshness and subtleness time after time. It's just easy and light. Effortless and classy. It's my everyday fragrance and it reminds me of how beautiful and simple things can be. I would recommend it to anyone who's looking for a soft, comfortable fragrance to use daily.

I have worn this scent for many, many years and still love it and want to continue wearing it. However, the formulation has changed, and I may need to search for a new orange blossom fragrance. What I loved about the old formulation, was that it smelled just like the orange blossoms on an orange tree, but the scent was deeper, richer, and more sophisticated. The new scent is now lighter and less concentrated, and has a more floral, honeysuckle scent, with only a little bit of the rich orange blossom fragrance that I am looking for. The scent also does not last very long. It still smells good, but it is definitely different, and not as great as the original version. Please bring the old version back! We long time users know that the formulation has changed. In the photo above, the old version is on the left, and the new is on the right. The new version also does not have a label on the back with an ingredient list. I prefer the old look.

This scent is happiness in a bottle. It is a fresh, light, citrus floral that stays true for hours, just softening. It's lush and juicy. Wearing it for only a few days, I've gotten numerous compliments. And, unlike so many fragrances, it does not seem to result in either sneezing or headaches! It's incredibly pretty, yet it's not sweet. I haven't tried layering it with another fragrance, because on its own, it's just perfect.

Jo Malone is in a league all her own.
