What it is: Gypsy Water Absolu reimagines the signature scent with unexpected and uniquely compelling spicy facets and heightening the signature warm woody dimension, paying tribute to the raw freedom of impermanence and the beauty of life in motion.
Fragrance story: Black pepper introduces a spicy contrast to sparkling bergamot and aromatic pine needles. At the heart, creamy orris butter is amplified by carrot seed for earthy warmth, while incense absolute adds smoky diffusion. At the base, vanilla absolute, white suede and ambroxan envelop the senses in a lingering amber-woody sillage. The Absolu de Parfum is held in a redesigned bottle, an homage to craftsmanship. Embodying the deep intensity and transformation, the textured cap, inspired by Yakisugi, the Japanese art of charring wood, opens to reveal the silver and gold atomizer spray, complementing the bottles elemental design and the clean curves of the glass that shows the intense color of the fragrance within.

Definitely Different
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] You know when you smell something for the first time and go “What is that!?” (and not in a good way …) , that was my recent experience with the Byredo Gypsy Water. Personally I did not like the scent and I even find it difficult to describe the smell itself.

Nothing like the original
I have been waiting for this to come out and blind bought it online immediately. It is not good. It doesn’t smell close the original Gypsy Water. I hoped this would be a stronger and longer lasting version of that. It’s not. It’s completely different. It’s way more masculine and heavy on the suede and spice. I’m super disappointed in this. I offered it to my husband but he did not like it either. Unfortunately I was impatient and purchased from another retailer and am unable to return it. Lesson learned! Sample first!!

Shockingly Dissappointing
Had been waiting for this release as I am a big fan of the original, and have always thought if reworked it had the potential to be something exquisitely sexy and amplified to its core fragrance profile.
That being said, this isn't even identifiable as having influence of the original Gypsy Water. The opening is aggressively ambiguous, overpowered perhaps by the incense in the fragrance-- it does get sweeter but by then the shock of its initial onset has deterred the mood to continue the scent. It also has the meat/beefy undertone scent that a couple other BYREDO scents have (Rodeo, Mixed Emotions) which was disappointed to discover.
This could be someone's favorite, and is unique to say the least but as an absolu to the iconic Gypsy Water in my opinion It totally missed not only the mark but a huge opportunity to celebrate its origination and resolidify its legacy. Shame.

horrible fragrance!
This fragrance has NOTHING to do with the OG which is a green/woody/aromatic vanilla with a poor performance. What a disappointment this has been! The combination of strong notes like pine, suede, and incense with black pepper ruined this , making it way too masculine.

Lovely sophisticated perfume
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I like this scent it is sophisticated and classy. The woody notes come through well and though on initial spray it seemed quite sharp, after a few minutes of adjusting to the skin it smells lovely. It is an around perfume, not particularly summery, I would buy again
