Higher quality boat shoe, but questionable
Owning a lot of boat shoes, I noticed right away that the Gold Cup is definitely higher in quality. From the packaging it came in, I could tell that this was a premium product over the others such as the authentic originals. However, I'm not entirely sure if the improvements are necessary or worth the price increase.
From my observations compared to the other Sperry boat shoes I've owned, the largest improvements other than small ones such as the gold eyelets and extra stitching on the tongue seem to be inside the shoe. Like other Sperry boat shoes, comfortable right out the box. However, the Gold Cup takes it a step further with higher quality leather and padding on the insole and in general on the sides and inside of the tongue. You notice the difference right away trying these on - its considerably more comfortable on all sides of the feet - bottom, side, and top. It feels like it has padding more like a running shoe than the bare minimum leather moccasin feel of the AO Sperrys.
While it is considerably more comfortable, I don't find boat shoes that uncomfortable to begin with. AO Sperrys seem fine to me even though they have a bit rougher and thinner leather inside, so I leave it up to you to decide if that extra comfort is necessary in a shoe that is meant to be run ragged in and around water and sand. If anything, the extra leather and padding might be a bit of a nuisance with added water and sweat where it might feel a bit hot and sticky. Its a luxury, if anything. Or designed for a more casual setting on land and pavement.
I'll leave that up to you if that's worth it for you, but if that's what you are looking for, this shoe has my recommendation.

Sperry Topsiders
Bought two pair of these shoes for two different children and both got blisters on their heels. If I bought them a size bigger than normal, their feet would come out of the shoes

Great shoe but bad footbed
I wanted to love these shoes, I really did. After reading countless reviews on amazon, nordstrom and watching youtube videos, I finally made the purchase.
The shoes themselves look amazing. High quality. The laces are a bit uneven but it's a minor concern.
The footbed is where there is the biggest problem. The soft leather becomes sticky if your feet get slightly sweaty. This causes the sole of your feet to hurt. After 1 day of walking around in nyc, the bottoms of my feet hurt tremendously.
It's a difficult problem to describe, and I hope as time goes on the leather on the sole fixes itself and stops becoming so sticky after a little sweat. And after just 2 days of wearing these, I can see the soft material that they used on the footbed is starting to crease awkwardly, and shift. I wish they used a stronger tougher leather on the footbed instead of this super soft stuff that stretches and creases.
Oh and the footbed has two pieces of leather. There's a seam in the middle that isn't securely glued down so I imagine over time it's not going to hold up. The Gold Cup branding on the heel faded after just 1 day. After 2 days, half of it is worn out.

Comfortable and Stylish
I got a 13 M size. It was snug at first but quickly shaped to my feet and they feel great. The inner lined deer skin feels nice. This is the first boat shoe pair I have bought that do not dig into my heels when not wearing socks. I highly recommend them and they looked great and very stylish for the summer months!

Sperry Gold Cup shoe
Once again it is comforting to know that when I slip on these shoes they are going to feel just like the first pair I bought more than 30 years ago. That new soft lining feels great on these old tired feet.

Comfortable & Good Looking!
My husband loves these beautiful shoes! They are high quality and very comfortable. He was worried about the lighter color - he usually gets the darker, but really likes these.

Nice Shoes
Received these yesterday and they are beautiful shoes, incredibly soft and cushy. Only problem is I have a wide foot and ordered the wide width which may not be wide enough. I have another pair of Sperry's in wide that fit fine, but this Gold Cup series is a bit narrow. I'm still debating as I would love to be able to keep them as they are so nice. Softest leather I've ever seen in a pair of shoes and the color is great as well
