Product does not retain its finish!
Not sure about the black finish, but I have had issues with the gold finish on this item. They claim to be dishwasher safe, but these have not held up as if they are. The knives had streaking and corrosion on the blades immediately, which was a concern. More importantly, after a few years, the rest of the pieces have started to loose their gold finish, some more so than others. It is disappointing to have this happen. Setting a table with a variety of utensil finishes is NOT the look I am going for.

Don't buy this product.
Bought the 42 piece set in August. Knives have permanent streaks and look awful. Defective product.

Gold coming off and rusty in some areas
I’ve had them for about a year and don’t use daily and the gold finishing is coming off. They look terrible. And they were not cheap.

Finish comes off
I've had these for over a year now, and I can report that the finish comes off, particularly on the spoons. The knifes have also rusted badly. I suspect it has something to do with the gold color--I really wish I had gotten them in the stainless finish instead :(

Silverware style
Very high-class looking! Elegant, yet practical and I use them every day. They "dress up" any plate, but also master their purpose even on less formal occasions. I highly recommend. Nothing "fancy-schmancy" about these, no ornate design... I hate that stuff anyway. The fact that these are black adds to their unique character likewise and differentiates them from the norm. These are perfect.
