Overpriced, mediocre design.
As with other reviewers, I find that the OR Foray 3l Parka is a miss. It lacks the design features needed to justify spending $400 for a 3-season rain jacket.
1. Pockets: It has no interior pockets and not enough pockets overall. Plus the lining on the pockets it has are not at all reinforced so keys or other hard/heavy objects are likely to destroy the jacket over time.
2. Warmth: Calling this a “parka” requires imagination. While this is could be a very warm “jacket” the vest has insufficient insulation for actual cold weather (at least by Chicago standards). Definitely an early spring/late fall piece unless you plan on multiple layers under it.
3. Fit: It is a bit baggy for the stated shoulder measurements. This is great if you plan on wearing multiple layers under it, but it needs a waist cord or something to trim it up or risk looking like you’re wearing a very chic technical poncho.
4. Care: OR advertises that this is machine washable, but you have to buy a particular brand of technical detergent and follow a care schedule to “maintain the fabric’s performance”. When I see something is “machine washable”, I expect to be able to throw it in the washer when it is dirty.
If this were half the price, I wouldn’t mind the gaps as much, but for $400 I’d at least expect it to be insanely packable into its own pocket, or to have some other distinguishing features. I’m returning.

Good system for the price
I've had my RG foray for a little over 3 years and it's been pretty good to me. I've mostly worn the puffer by itself in cool weather. There's little wind resistance to it, so be warned. Otherwise it's a good standalone layer on even the coldest days for short exposure times. I've had to wear the jacket on several rainy days, and the full system during an Easter trip to the UK in '23. Scotland, Wales, and northern England aren't known for great weather in March and this trip was no exception. We endured near constant wind and periodic rain & sleet. When we went to London it rained for several hours one day and we were in it at its hardest. The fabric shed water well without getting soaked, as I'd expect from OR. All in all, it's a good buy.

Other's do it way better.
It is a pretty big miss. The pro's are that it is very rain proof. However it does come up short everywhere else. One, it could definitely be warmer. It always feels freezing when you put it on and it takes a while to warm up. Once you warm it up, it's decently warm, you'll need more layers if using in the cold. Will definitely need a hat or scarf if you plan to use this as a winter jacket since the hood isn't lined. Neither are the pockets, so your hands will be cold without gloves. I wish they sold different liners that were compatible so you could scale the warmth. This is definitely a cool weather only jacket. It also lacks ANY interior pockets. It would be nice if the liner had an interior breast pocket, or dump pockets. As is, if you wear the liner alone, you only have the hand pockets. This jacket is also extremely tight around the waist and hips. Unlike other brands that offer a cinch cord around the waist and a loosens around the hips and thighs so you can walk and sit, this is just tight. If you are trying to use for anything other than casual wear, you won't fit anything around your waist that you can cover or get to.

Good: Longer than other Forays / Bad: No TorsoFlo
I bought is jacket to replace my old Gore-Tex Foray that started to delaminate after 7 years of use. Lets see how well this AscentShell Dry hold up over the years.
So far this is a great 3-in-1 jacket but I'm really disappointed that it lacks the TorsoFlo Venting all the other Foray versions have. TorsoFlo Venting, or at least some basic armpit vents, really makes a difference when you need to vent some heat build up or want to use the shell as a rain jacket year round.
I like that it comes as a 3-in-1. This is easier to put on and take off than the Foray and Shadow combo this jacket is replacing. Being able to combine the shell and insulation layer when it gets cold is much more convenient than dealing with 2 separate jackets.
I like that it is longer than the other Foray versions The longer Parka style provides better rain and snow protection than the shorter Jacket style.
The over all look and color make this great to wear in any setting like work, camping, shopping, or anywhere else. I really like the Ranger Green color over the Hops Green of my Foray that this is replacing.
I hope they make a version 2 with TorsoFlo Venting and a stuff sack for the insulation layer.

3-1 all around jacket/parka/rain shell
Impressive 3-1 after wearing out my North Face 3-1 system I have wore for years. Bought this to replace it and I am happy with what my research settled upon. Love the zip out silk liner as a stand alone lite duty jacket,a nd the shell works excellent as a rain cover. This is a great system for a beginner or an expert in the field or out on the town. Size runs true and is a little longer than expected but I did not mind the extra length to cover my hind end.
