Sheer Silk Georgette Jacket

This is truly a special piece for special occasions. I’ve waited to review because it is a pricey piece even at the sale price I purchased it at. I bought it well ahead of a family wedding to which planned to wear it, not wanting to write about it until I’d worn it for the occasion. The wedding was yesterday, and here I am reviewing. The jacket was worthy of the dressy event, and I look forward to wearing it again when I bring it to England on an autumn trip. For this first wearing I styled the jacket over a simple sleeveless black EF dress made of a lovely stretchy knit with a long asymmetrical hem. I’ve had the dress for years and it’s always a winner. The jacket flows perfectly over the dress. The deep side slits of the jacket are so graceful and perfect for dancing. I can’t remember the color name, but it is a rich deep sea-like blue, not a simple navy but rather an intriguing and flattering quiet color with real depth. The length in petite over the petite midi high/low hem length dress worked gracefully. The silk fabric, cut, and construction of this jacket are exactly right, as is the sleeve length. My only caveat is that the jacket has absolutely no internal structure. It’s a wonderfully flowing garment, but the collar is not high; mine definitely is more flat, like a small lapel, so it works over any simple collarless dress or top. If available again on sale, I would probably buy it in another color because it is definitely a keeper like all the best EF pieces.

This silk jacket has become an unexpected hero in my wardrobe! While it sat unused for some time, I've now found its ideal purpose as a sophisticated second layer. It layers perfectly over dresses, dress slacks, and is even suitable for semi-formal events. For instance, I wore it as a jacket over a fitted black dress, securing it with a pin, and it looked fantastic. The silk adds a luxurious feel, and its ability to elevate various outfits makes it a truly valuable addition.
