The Bath Soak

What it is: A bath soak for new mothers containing herbs that aid in the repair, toning and cleansing of the perineal tissues following birth.

What it does: A recreation of a traditional sitz bath, this herbal blend can be decocted or poured directly into the bathwater, depending on the desired potency of your soak. It contains mineral-rich burdock, which helps relieve skin conditions; comfrey, which facilitates the healing of damaged tissue; and shepherd's purse, which reduces bleeding by constricting blood vessels and tightening tissues.

How to use: Add 1/4 cup directly or decoct for at least 30 minutes into a quart of boiling water. Let cool. For use in shallow or soaking baths. Note: Decoction allows for a more potent concentration of the plant constituents and stronger herbal action as a result. To decoct, bring water to a boil, place the plant material in the water, remove from heat and let infuse for 30 minutes to 2 hours. Strain and pour liquid into bath.
