1460 W Boot (Women)

I own 4 pairs of DMs, this being my 4th pair. I love them all to death, but these ones are by far my most favourite. They're trendier than the black, but just as comfortable, and more classic than some of the other styles I have. That being said, all my DMs run one whole size too big, and I have pretty average feet. I wear a US 7 (Medium width) in all my shoes, except in DMs I buy a UK4/US6 and it fits me perfectly. The 7s make my feet look like boat feet and they really turned me off the first time I tried them on. Reluctantly, I went with a smaller size and was surprised by how well they fit. After making sure they fit, they take 6 months to a year to fully break in. In the first few months I had bloody spots on the backs of my feet, much like you'd get wearing stiff flats. Thick hiking socks are recommended and they make them much warmer during the wintertime. Now that mine are broken in I can wear them with shorts and tank tops no problems or discomfort. As an added bonus, they're 100% waterproof! They're perfect for Seattle/Vancouver rain. Overall I really love them, and the Cherry Red is my favourite and will be for years.

I really wanted a pair of 1460W Dr. Martens in this beautiful dark red, but was apprehensive after reading about the daunting task of breaking them in. As it turned out, the biggest difficulty I had with this boot was determining what size to get. Initially, the boots are SO stiff that it`s hard to tell what a good fit is, and there are a lot of opinions out there on sizing. I generally wear a size 7.5 to an 8 woman`s US in a boot, and a 7 in a sandal. The website suggested an 8, but to be safe, I ordered the US size 7 and an 8 since Dr. Martens do not come in half sizes. I wore each size for a time inside the house, and then checked the impression my toes made on the insole. The 7 seemed a real close fit to the end of the boot, but cut deeply into the top of my foot where the tongue was sewn to the boot ( I have a high instep). The 8 did not cut my foot, but was a little sloppy in the heel and looked huge, like I was playing dress-up with Daddy`s boots. I took them both to the store, and after having my foot measured, determined the 7 would be the best fit. I tried on a store 7, with the same issue with the tongue.The benefit of buying Docs from Nordstrom is that they can stretch the boot, and if it STILL doesn`t fit, you can return them and get yourself some nice "sensible" shoes" like the ones Grandma keeps telling you to buy. I had the 7 stretched, and they fit PERFECTLY. I softened the back of the boot by repeatably folding it back and forth, and now they are super comfortable and will only get better with wear. Mission accomplished!

I had been wanting a pair of dr. Martens for the longest time, but I was afraid because I have very wide feet. I read the reviews and had the hardest time deciding what size I should buy. I purchased them online so all I had to go on was the reviews. I generally wear a size 7w and a 7 1/2 or 8m. After reading all the reviews many said to order a 1/2 size down so me thinking I have wider feet I stuck with the size 8 and I'm glad I did. When I first tried on the boot they were super stiff and tight around the widest part of my foot. Now after wearing them for 3 times they have started to loosen up. I'm glad because the first time I wore the boots I had to change my shoes because they were uncomfortable on my feet but the good thing is they are starting to loosen up which I hope with a couple more times of me wearing them they won't bother me anymore. My advice is if you have wide feet go to a store and try them on I should have done that in the first place.
