Hooded Trench Coat

I bought this coat because I saw it on a blog I follow (topic is dressing fashionably for travel). The price was right, and Cole Haan has been a good brand. I live in California and wish we would we get monsoon type rains. But for CA and my needs, this coat was fine. I wear a size 4-6 in everything and ordered the small. It fits fine. The length, room in the shoulders, It's a nice look. If you live in an area where there is more rain, I would frankly consider investing in a traditional trench designed for bad weather and with the option of a zip out lining for extra warmth. I am also a stickler for finishing, because I had a trench from another clothing company. It was disappointing--the buttons kept falling off. On this coat, the 2/3 of the buttons are secured by a nice back, however the bottom button doesn't have this backing. I thought it odd, but I'm not a designer. At least the top two buttons are reinforced, presumably where they would take more pressure and have to hold up better. The stitching seems fine and the hood is optional and easily removed. There is no lining so I wouldn't be wearing it on a rainy day in November in New York without a thin sweater like a merino wool over a Patagonia type layering top. A thick sweater would make the coat too tight. If you order a too big of a size to account for more layers, I suggest going to a different coat. Honestly, I debated whether to send it back, but for where I live and was looking for a shorter trench, for under $150 this was fine. It basically is like an outerwear blazer. When you want to up your fashion game but don't need warmth or water proofing, it's fine.

This is a super beautiful and perfectly proportioned raincoat. I'm 5' 4" and 120 pounds. The small fit perfectly, even with a sweater. I am returning it, but only because the color was not for me. The pearl-gray leaned toward gold-gray and not silver-gray or blue-gray. The color is super beautiful and has the nuance of a nice sheen, but it's for me; in this color I personally look washed-out. If you look great in more of a taupe-gray, this will look awesome on you. The online picture makes it look like it leans toward a blue-gray but it really does not. So I gave it five stars because it is perfect in every way but just not perfect for me.
