Detox Clay Mask with Rosemary & Honey

I am flabbergasted at any bad reviews about this mask. I felt like I struck gold when I finally broke down and purchased it. I have been using many Chantecaille products over the past year, including their other masks and I love them. I have also tried many clay masks that were okay, but made my skin feel tight, including Kiehl's and Aēsop. I'd only resisted purchasing this product because I knew it was black and would stain my washcloth. I figured after my friend kept raving about it that it was worth sacrificing a single washcloth for. Oh my gosh, was it ever! The texture is like butter, and smooths onto the face incredibly easily. A little goes a long way, making the price tag worth every penny. I've already used it about a dozen times, and still have just over half a jar left. It appears almost greenish, and I find this scent to be pleasant and quite soothing. I enjoy rosemary, and like all Chantecaille products, it's very subtle. The suggested time is 10 minutes, although I have left it on for up to 20 minutes without any tightness whatsoever. Perhaps the honey helps keep the skin soft? Any other clay mask would make my face feel super tight at that point, and leave it somewhat red after washing it off. I found washing this mask off to be very easy and gentle, using a soft washcloth and warm water. It makes my skin feel super smooth, my pores noticeably smaller, and leaves my skin glowing. I will occasionally get a tiny pimple immediately after using this product, which disappears the next day. That's the idea behind using a purification mask, isn't it? I wish I hadn't waited so long to purchase this product. This is the only clay mask I'll use.

Ok, I have read lots of glorious reviews about this mask before buying it. I am in my middle thirties and straggling with adult acne for the last four months. Basically my last acne outbreak is truly the worst of my lifetime (believe me, it's not a couple of pimples before the period: it's much, much worse...all the time). I did not expect this mask to fix my acne. But it's always a good idea to use non-drying face care after thirty and especially while using medicated acne treatments that are drying by nature. I tell ahead that this clay mask did NOT clog my pores. Below I am going to list the reasons why I gave this Detox mask one star. My main complain is the mess it creates while using it. The Mask's texture is a bit of greasy-gooey and color is greyish-dark blueish. After I applied a generous amount of it onto my cleansed face, I noticed that I had great difficulties washing it of my hands (even using soap!). My hands had grey tint, and at the closer look the mask particles were stuck in those thin lines of my fingers. Reading reviews, I did learn not to use white wash cloth to remove the mask. Instead I used large cotton pads for removing makeup. THIS MASK LEAVES GREY TINT ON THE SKIN! It means your pores are NOT clean. I had to use heavy duty cleansing balm to remove this mask. And lot's of toner afterwords to make sure that my skin is clean. After using Detox Clay Mask with Rosemary and Honey from Chantecaille skin on my face was very smooth and soft, but it feels this way every time I use my cleansing balm. I did not see any difference in my skin tone neither right after this mask or the next day. And using cleansing balm after masking makes no sense to apply mask on my face to begin with. It did not eliminate blemishes or blackheads. It simply did nothing, but a mess in my bathroom. Needless to say, the sink basing in my bathroom needed to be cleaned... If you are looking for a similar cleansing and non-drying mask, you may try Revive Masque de Glaise. It certainly costs more ($145) but it comes in 5oz instead of Chantecaillle 1.7oz for $75. Masque de Glaise has similar color, but different texture, and washes with water beautifully. And yes, Chantecaille mask is going back.
