Winters are relative to where you live—which means if you live anywhere that gets colder than in the low-40s, this review isn't going to to help you find the perfect winter coat. But if you're like me, and live in a place where winter means that you don't get below 40, a good quilted coat is pretty much all you need to get through the worst that winter's got to give. This Barbour coat checks all the boxes. It's got long sleeves with finished cuffs so the heat stays with you. The longer length also keeps you toasty when the temperatures drop, with a full pull zipper that's easy to grab, and snaps to seal in warmth. Generously sized pockets keep your hands warm with plenty of room for keys, phone, wallet, and more. The rugged fabric shields out mist and fog, but it's definitely not a raincoat; it's just designed for fog, colder temperatures, and misty conditions, and handles all perfectly. A spacious, lined hood keeps you even warmer. The jacket isn't lined, but the cut is roomy enough to layer over a sweater or sweatshirt; if you're a layer fan, consider sizing up to allow for extra bulk (I did; I'm normally a size 8 and got this in a 10, and it's been absolutely fine over cardigans, fair isles, and bulky sweatshirts). On me, this is almost a floor-length coat (I'm 5'2), so it will be more of a midi-length if you're 5'4 or above. And the quality of the build is so good, I'm going to be using this for at least another 10+ years.
