volumizing tonic™

I've been using this product since at least 1995. It's perfect for adding volume to fine hair. I'm so glad they are still making it! So often you will find a hair or makeup product that you just love and then all of a sudden it's no where to be found. One way I have used this product is with velcro rollers. Just section off hair, spray, and roll it on the roller. Let it set. Awesome!

I spray this very liberally directly onto my damp hair and then blow dry. I need to blow dry for best results. I have tried many products to add body to my limp, fine hair and I keep coming back to this.

I have tried a lot of volumizers, I have thin hair, this one truly works. I use all of the Aveda hair products for thinning, fine hair, and they are all wonderful and natural. Only a little amount is needed and this product, plus many of Aveda products, make your hair smell and feel wonderful. These products improve hair texture and scalp condition, which is the overall health of the hair shaft. I am not a cosmetologist, just a customer, and I have found the products I will continue to use, and no others. The hair sprays are also wonderful. A tip my hair dresser gave me on using hair spray is to spray in little sprays, not hold down the sprayer, but just little spurts, it works better on holding the style plus saves so much on how much of it you use, my hair spray now lasts much longer, I save money and still get the greatest product.

Which product can help me increase/retain hair volume, especially when faced with high humidity? This was the question I was asking my hairdresser at the salon recently. She had a few ideas, and products to hand, 'Volumizing Tonic' being one of them. Already being a fan of various Aveda products, I decided to give this a try. She demonstrated how to apply it, by spraying on my hair whilst it was still damp - applying directly to the roots. This was then massaged in and finally followed by brushing though with a brush whilst at the same time using a blow dryer. Instant volume, although I was curious to see if it would pass the humidity test when I stepped outside (it did!). She also advised it must be used on clean hair to avoid interactions with other products that may be coating the hair and weighing it down. Accurate advice which unfortunately I didn't take take heed of...because a few days after purchasing, I decided to try it on my hair, some hours after using a hair spray. The results were not good, and I had to shampoo my hair and start all over again. Lesson learned! I have very fine hair, but lots of it and it's very straight and subject to humidity. I live in the Pacific Northwest where it rains all the time so I need a volumizer that really works. This one truly does. It doesn't leave flakes like many of the spray on volumizers do, doesn't have a bad odor, is very lightly scented but it doesn't stay with you all day like some do. You don't need much of it, just spray on the roots, blow dry and you're good to go. If you want to freshen up in between shampooing just spray with a little water before blow drying and it comes back to life and is ready to volumize your hair again. I've used it when my hair was long and now it's very short again and it still works great and does the job.

This worked a little bit better than the Aveda Thickening Tonic (which had zero effect), but not any better than any drugstore brands. The nauseating smell of some Aveda hair products, like this one, made this product even less appealing to me.
